Before & After - Charlie's Grocery Store

Charlie's Grocery, Jasper St., Charleston, S.C.

According to my records the first photo was taken in 2005 and the follow up is the 2011 update. Charlie's Grocery store is on Jasper St. in Radcliffeborough and known for it's Falafel. Shamefully I have never had a falafel at Charlies and it is just a few blocks from my house. I need to take care of that.

It does look like the advances included indoor plumbing - no more toilet on the street. Heheh.

Bin Loaded

Sego Palm shadow, Charleston, S.C.

Aaaargh. I simply want to know if tomorrow is a recycling day. Everyone on my street dragged their blue bins out last Thursday. They were left spilling all over the sidewalk but we figured it was Veteran's day and smacked our foreheads...duh. We left them out another night in high hopes of a make up day but that just left one more night for tipsy college students to kick them over.

Our pick up schedule is every other Thursday so surely the county web site can make sure we are on track with a handy dandy calendar, no? No. Instead of a simple calendar you type your address in for exactly nothing to happen.

Digging in to a new week

Vanderhorst St., Charleston, S.C.

Vanderhorst & Smith. Through the years this apartment building has been home to countless high energy, late night College of Charleston student festivities. Frisbees flying, beach towels drying, beer cans rolling, lawn chairs left collapsed and rusting in the yard. I suspect there are many happy but vague memories of parties held here.

Hordes of tipsy residents from this property used to leap up to grab the corner of the barely reachable flag flying from my porch. They would give it a hard enough jerk to snap the wooden flagpole and wave it victoriously high as they staggered down the street late at night. How do I know? We recaptured one flag in the wee hours of the morning from a couple of stunned students living in one of those top floor apartments. I finally stopped hanging them at all.

It's an impressive building yet I've always wondered why they painted it this color.

G'night kids. I am just back from a late walk to realize that I left all my weekend chores to do on this Monday night. Blah. How did that happen?
