Georgetown is a lovely town and I hope their downtown can bounce back from this disaster. It is the perfect day trip from Charleston and still a good place to visit.

I love d that area. Was so sorry when I heard about. Certainly hope they are able to restore it.
Sad to lose that history and architecture.
This is a sad sight to see. I hope they are able to recover. Sometimes disasters like this provide the impetus for something even better than what was there before.
Wow! This was some devastation! Thanks for the link which described it and the town's history so well. Let us know occasionally how things are going for the residences and
businesses that were displaced by the fire. On New Year's Day a Minneapolis building was destroyed by fire, leaving two people dead and 16 injured. It wasn't the kind of historical building your describe but a store front and 12 apartments above that were homes to Somali immigrants who already have suffered too much turmoil in their lives. The community is rallying around them, but it must be difficult. My hope is that both communities, your Georgetown and this immigrant community, will be able to flourish again.

They will. Still it will be a challenge and I am sure will take time to figure out.
I haven't heard how this one started. It was always a worry for me when I lived in a big old wooden house. I feel for your folks. What a terrible thing.
