I am expecting a messy weekend. When I moved into my little house there wasn't enough time to do anything about the nasty popcorn ceiling. Cringe. According to my handyman, it is time. The current thinking is to simply put a new layer of sheet rock on top of the existing ceiling rather than trying to scrape it all off. If you don't hear from me I may be under a layer of sheet rock dust.

Who was the brain behind the popcorn ceiling anyway? I've never heard anyone who has had a good thing to say about the popcorn ceiling. Argh! Don't envy your task but it will really update the look of your rooms. Your new place is turning into an enchanted cottage! Yay!
I guess they were an easy finish to put up but any flaw later is almost impossible to match or fix. Horrid mess to get rid of. Wish me luck!
That's what we did, Joan. Just put a layer of wallboard over the existing, finish the seams off and paint. You don't have to plaster, and it looks like a smooth plaster finish.
I did my whole house. Spray hot water on it then scrape. Not an easy job!
Sounds good! Glad to hear it worked for you. Thanks!
Wow ....Charlotte. That must have been a huge job. I feel so lucky having this great handyman to do the work so far. Whew.
I LOVE YOUR SELF PORTRAIT! The people with the cameras are rarely in the photos, ha ha... I'm going to have to use your tactic, ha ha!
Congratulations on getting your popcorn ceiling covered. What were we thinking, popcorn ceilings, avocado appliances, bell-bottom pants, and big hair...it's all so awful in hindsight!
Love your picture, I have a few self-portraits like that.
I love this! Can I copy you for my own version? <g I love your blog for inspiring me to get out there and investigate my new city. Thank you!
Do it!
Yes, the only pictures I am usually in are when I hand my camera to someone and I am trying to give them directions on how to use it.
I don't mind the popcorn ceilings so much until they get a flaw or stain. Then you are screwed. Never seem to be able to patch them properly.
Sure thing. Go forth and explore your city!
