Bali Coconut & Lime Sea Salt

I walked up King St. this morning and detoured to pick up one of the scrumptious duck confit sandwiches at Caviar & Bananas on George St.  Wandering while waiting for my sandwich and trying not to notice if they had their giant coconut macaroons on hand (they did. I didn't get one. sniff), I noticed this display of salt. Yep. Artisan salt. Is that the new thing or am I slow?  I remembered reading about a salt related event and found this on the Post & Courier site:

I finished my walk through the Charleston Farmers Market and had to grab this funny shot from the Banana Tree booth. I love people who take the trouble simply to get a smile. :)

i actually ordered the caviar and bananas at caviar and bananas and couldn't eat anything for another twelve hours. delicious. and yes, these fancy salts have made it all the way to vermont, too. i use only grey salt (which isn't really, really gray). but i do love the look of the pink ones.

Did they have Morton's salt amongst the lot? It pours when it rains, you know.

You gotta watch out with that combination, remember the old song "you put the lime in de coco-nut"? That particular pairing guarantees... uh ... regular bathroom attendance, shall we say! 8-)

I did not. It sounds kinda crazy to me. It makes more sense to flavor the food rather than the salt but I admit I haven't tried it yet.

Did you?! I love the place. I say yesterday that they had started serving brunch and it looked delicious.

I just recently, for the very first time ever, bought Himalayan pink salt crystals (from Trader Joe's in Greenville). So either I am slow, too, or this is a fairly recent trend. Haven't seen any coconut lime sea salt yet, but it sounds intriguing. Now I have to look for it!

How about the Hawaiian Guava Wood Smoked or the Pacific Blue Kosher Salt? I think people had some fun and perhaps a few drinks coming up with these names. Let's have a salt naming party!

The Pass the Salt event seems like such a neat idea. Who knew there were so many different kinds out there?
