I suspected this abandoned building was the old Naval Hospital and confirmed it with the
photo below which was taken in 1948. Thunder showers were rolling in when I was there this weekend and the skies looked so dramatic. I still know people who were familiar with it when it was a working hospital.I imagine those walls could tell some tales.

Is it still US Government property? With the trend of re-purposing old buildings you'd think it could be converted to another use. It looks like it has good "bones".

That is quite an anchor. A truly historical building. Sure dislike not having the CDP portal since it's been hacked. I wonder when it will return? Have you heard anything about it??
lowandslow - I don't know who actually owns it now. There are a lot of cool old buildings up there in difference stages of disrepair. Filming the series Army Wives has helped get some of the grand old mansions renovated. I have a few more photos to post from a drive through this past weekend.

I was in that hospital LOTS of times in 1958 thru 1961. There was a little BX across the street with a soda fountain where we would go for Cherry Cokes while waiting on test results (usually for my younger sister.) Plus there was a little theatre where I saw "Lady and the Tramp." Lord, the things we remember! In 1971 my mother was in that hospital for a month. They could not cure her. My dad finally said, enough and had her taken to St. Francis Hospital. She was cured in ONE WEEK. Pam D.

I bet it was. Someone recently was searching for photos of the interior as it would have been then.
i just recently went here to do a paranormal activity, didnt get to hear much...only really heard strange thumps, what sounded like a little girl giggiling, and heard what sounded to be a heartbeat...creepy place but its awesome to go in and explore
I grew up in Charleston and we were a navy family-had everything done there-sometimes great service other times lucky to get out alive-but hate to see it falling down-so much history and so many lives there-wish I was still in my home town-love that place
