Charleston Doors

Meeting St., Charleston, S.C,
It's late and I should be in bed. I worked late this evening and in my mind that already justifies slipping out to get to a movie tomorrow afternoon. I still need to catch Meryl Streep in Iron Lady, doncha think?

Aren't these the most beautiful doors?  They are on lower Meeting St. almost at White Point Gardens. If the doors look like this, I can't even imagine how beautiful the interior is.

I want to thank everyone who has added information about pictures recently in comments and on Facebook. It is so much fun to get more details about a scene I've captured quickly as I go by. Buildings in Charleston have such history and it is lovely for you all to make it more personal for us. Thank you.

G'night kids!

Yes, very impressive doors, and don't forget the coach lamps, too. :)

Stunning doors! You probably could do an entire, almost endless, theme on Charleston doors. Years ago there was a woman who solicited door photos from us photographers and regularly posted them. I am so sorry that it no longer exist. It was fascinating!!

House looks too big to keep clean or organized for me, but I lust after the doors. Wonder how they'd look on my dinky pre-Hazel house...

What an imposing edifice - the doors, the archway, even the wrought-iron fixtures on the sides. It must be an impressive structure.

What stories those doors could tell.

Gunn - Happy weekend to you!

Lowandslow - There was some repair done recently but it all looks grand now.

Kate - I have a door album! I love doors and not always the grandest ones.

Anon - I agree. Love to have a tour though.

Cotton Boll - I had a morning phone call at work to let me know who owns the house. It is actually owned by the family of one of the physicians on staff at the hospital. Charleston is a small town.

Bruce - Amen.

maggsworld - Some of the best!

bratcatt - They really are.

Gorgeous doors!

Joan - here's a question for you. What kind of snacks do you like when you watch a movie in the theater? Do you buy anything at the theater, or do you smuggle in your own? Inquiring minds want to know. 8-)

If it is the house I'm thinking of, it is beautiful inside (or used to be when I was in college - I'm not sure if it has been renovated).

Marcheline - Are you trying to get me in trouble? My favorite theater might start searching my bag! :) If I go to the Terrace Theater here they always make me a cuppa hot tea. I don't order popcorn anymore after learning how awful it is. Shame, eh? I sometimes sneak in little snacks. Friday I had the cocoa dusted almonds and two cookies in my purse.

Julie - It is the one at the bottom of Meeting St. across from the beautiful Bed & Breakfast. It is a huge brick mansion.

Number 1 Meeting Street? The Hawk family owned this home for many, many years. Perhaps they still do? Lovely photograph, Joan!

As Maria says, that's the Hawk house, but I don't know if they still live there. I went to school with Mrs. Hawk's grandson back in the day!

You are correct! I had a phone call at work telling me who owns the house. Charleston is still a small town, eh!
