The Swing

Swing, Wadmalaw Island, S.C.

The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

by Robert Louis Stevenson

The image begs me to fly in the air...at any playground, as a child I always always favoured a swing

Howdy Joan and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope the ballet was fun? I was so surprised to log on and see this poem on here....it was my favorite childhood poem and I recited it before the class in first grade! Seems not many people have heard of it, so was surprised to see it here. I had a swing too, my Daddy put one in our tree for me. Did you have a swing?

maggsworld - me too. We spent hours and hours on swings.

BeachGypsy - I did have a great birthday - thank you! My Dad always built us swing sets as well. This photos was taken in Wadmalaw Island. I need to add that.

A rope and a piece of wood, tied onto a branch ... that can make children's laughter.

It doesn't take much does it? Funny how many of us have fond swing memories.
