MLK Parade, Charleston - 2011

King St., Charleston, S.C.

Thank you Dr. King. Seriously. I am in awe every time I listen to his words.

A few more from the parade in this album.

I love the expression on the face of that short female flag bearer... she knows something we don't know!

I know! She looks like mischief!

You really caught a wonderful moment on a day celebrating an extraordinary human being.
May I ask a question, Joan. My husband (aka Mr. Brattcat), a dear friend, and I are planning a visit to your fair city next month. I know you've stepped inadvertently into the wedding planning business with Katie's request, but could I ask if you or one of your followers could suggest a B&B or a hotel that is not too glitsy/touristy? We're looking for some real old Charleston experiences and are eager for suggestions. Thanks!

Any mention or photo of Martin Luther King Jr.brings to memory the death of another public person;Robert Kennedy who was also killed in 1968.I remember vividly even now, among some of MLK, a moving photo of his widow Coretta Scott King in mourning, which the Illustrated Weekly of India,a weekly magazine published.Months later, the same weekly published not only Senator Kennedy's photos but also of the entire Kennedy clan.I still remember a cheerful family photo of Robert and Ethel Kennedy with their then, ten children;five flanking each parent.

brattcat - Sure! I will see what we can come up with.

Namrata - I was in India then as well. I remember studying TIME magazine for information. Funny to think of how limited our info was without TV and little news on the radio.

Yes.I remember that in those days when there was no TV,those who sought to be updated, listened to the BBC,VOA,etc., because the news of the AIR was limited. The multiple choice of TV news channels now has not diminished the popularity of BBC radio programmes in India even now.
