Summertime

Charleston piazza, Charleston, SC
Beach towels hanging over porches say summertime to me. The colleges might be on break but that is a good number of bicycles. It looks like some good times happen here.

Festive flag display

Flag display, Rose Lane, Charleston, SC
This is a colorful way to get a little piazza privacy on Rose Lane.

In other news, I joined friends for dinner at Fish restaurant this evening. The menu has changed and I ordered this! I was expecting a dainty piece of trout. Holy cow. I mean holy fish including the head! It was delicious and I brought half of it home for dinner tomorrow night.

Porch weather

Old Charleston Jail, Magazine St., Charleston, SC
Warm and muggy. It's porch weather.
Is it still called a piazza in Charleston if it is on the back of the old jail?
The roof even looks like an old witch's hat, doesn't it?
Boo!

Straighten up, Charleston!

Charleston Single House, Charleston, SC
Straighten up, Charleston! I remember thinking what an odd look this was when I first moved here. The porches or piazzas are built on a slant so the rain water runs off and since so many open porches have a front door they must be trimmed to fit.

Parts Unknown featured Anthony Bourdain in Cuba last night which was of interest to me since I've put a down payment on a trip in January. Now the preview is out for the Charleston visit which includes Chef Sean Brock and Bill Murray and will air November 15. This looks like fun!
