I woke up a couple of times to the sound of rain last night and this morning the skies were gloomy and perfect for a cemetery walk. By the time I pulled up to the gates at Magnolia Cemetery off upper Meeting St. this morning the sun was out and every scene had dramatic lighting. I roamed Magnolia visiting all my favorite spots and then did a quick walk through St. Lawrence Cemetery next door where the angel statue shot was taken.
This last shot made me smile. I have a couple of photographer friends (hi Leah and Kathy!) who frequently go to Magnolia Cemetery just to take pictures of birds. They
never take pictures of the tombs or statues. Finding this fake bird in a tree made me feel like I was finally part of their club!

Excellent, Joan. I agre with Lowandslow. The angel in front of the cross is the one that grabbed my attention.

Thanks Jack. I go there frequently so the challenge is always to find a new way of looking at the same scene, eh? I feel like a hunter.
I like the bird but I think I prefer your tombstone shots.
This post just makes me want to give you an enormous hug. I am a long-time cemetery photographer, and I'm pretty sure I could have been put in the loony bin for some of the positions I had to get in for "the perfect shot". Happily, most old cemeteries are deserted, so only the ghosts saw me. And I know just how you felt when you saw the wee bird... there is always something of the treasure hunt in a photo outing. He's lovely!
