My Bird Heaven

I've been kayaking a couple of times this summer and have my own red tupperware tub now. They are lighter and more manageable than canoes used to be but still heavy enough to be frustrating to handle alone. I ordered some wheels on eBay and this morning was my test trip to see if I could enjoy kayaking alone.

Naturally it was one of the busiest days at any landing and boats were lined up like airplanes ready to take off. Seniors holding scrappy dogs pulled up their golf carts to watch me but I did it! I stayed out for hours sneaking up on squawking birds. I saw an osprey take off with his catch, egrets soar, a red headed woodpecker, wood storks and countless birds I can't name. It was glorious and I was in heaven.

I love that last picture with the stork in the cypress. What lake is this?

I just published a post detailing some of my own adventures in red tupperware this summer, though the story has ended up being a little political.

Looks like great fun. I want a kayak so bad I can taste it. However I don't have a rack to transport it on nor a place to store it. Planning ahead I can see a garage in our future, either here in Dallas or in the future in Colorado (?). Until then I'll just kayak vicariously with you. :)

lowandslow - I let a young man keep his kayaks in my garage for a token amount. I love it when the Kayak Fairy leaves cash under my doormat!

Gorgeous, gorgeous! And Joan, if you're kayaking alone, please be super careful and always wear your flotation vest. And let someone know you are going, where you will be paddling, and when you plan to be back (or write it all down and leave it on your kitchen table in plain view). Safety first, and all that.

Yep, yep! I am on a lake so really staying near the banks. I could walk out of most of it. I have all the safety stuff. Doing my best!

This is so very beautiful! I am so glad that you have your very own transportation and can manage it by yourself. What wonderful freedom! - Thank you for sharing your adventures there. It makes me want to go! Have you seen any alligators?
