Cavallero Supper Club on Wheels

Old Cavallaro Restaurant, Savannah Auto Mile, Charleston, S.C.
Two and a half miles away from the Charleston peninsula which must have seemed like the countryside then, the Cavallero was an upscale restaurant best known for it's steak dinners, live big band music and dancing. Rick Hendrick's car dealership bought the property after the restaurant closed. People still had such sentimental attachment to it that it was restored before it turned into a Honda dealership.

I remember being in it for a luncheon event but it was long past it's prime even then. Any readers have any memories of dinner and dancing on special evenings at the Cavallero?

What a coincidence that googling for historical information I happened upon this vintage postcard for sale on eBay today showing the interior of the old Cavallaro supper club.

After it was a restaurant, and before it became a car dealership, it was an event venue. My husband's daughter had her wedding reception there in 1997. It was gorgeous!

Isn't that wild that there happened to be a postcard for sale on ebay today?

Amazing old postcard... love those! Also amazing that used car places always end up in buildings that look exactly like what they used to be. I wonder how many people go in to buy a car and ask if they can get a pitcher of sangria while they wait...

A place to dine and dance sounds wonderful to me. I'm sure the lovely old postcard does not do it justice when it was in its prime, but fun to see what it must have looked like.

I don't know, but wouldn't a car named after the restaurant seem appropriate now? The Cavallaro ?

Happy Mother's Day!

So many older folks have great memories of the place. It was really the special place to go.

I like it! You could buy a Cavallaro at the Cavallaro :)

Wow! I had totally forgotten about the Cavallaro! Unfortunately I never had a chance to go before it closed.
