Heart walking Folly Beach style

Folly Beach, SC
I always find happy surprises at the Edge of America. This was on the walk on the far east end towards the Morris Island lighthouse.

Happy Thanksgiving folks! Picture me blowing kisses to all of you!

The tales the Frewil Apartment building could tell would be a great book of short stories.

Hearts for heart month

Morris St., Charleston, S.C.
Heart photo for heart month. This is at the little chapel in the park on Morris St. I think the heart graffiti has been painted over.

My son treated me to an early birthday dinner at Five Loaves Cafe. I'm happy to eat there anytime. Portobello goat cheese burger....yum.  Always fresh, tasty and affordable.

After he got in his car I kept on walking and coming back up King St. was a few steps ahead of an elderly lady who took a tumble straight forward into the street. She was afraid to move and we waited for an ambulance with her head resting in my lap on the street. A young man called for the ambulance, people huddled around comforting her, taking off their jackets to offer as blankets. It was nice to see strangers being so kind and concerned. I think she will be okay. Hope so. If not, I promised to check on her in the morning.

Charleston's Ginkgo Biloba party

Ginkgo trees at the Charleston Library Society

Ginkgo trees at Marion Square, Charleston, S.C.
Ginkgo leaves, King St., Charleston, S.C.
Charleston had a Ginkgo Biloba party and I hope you were there! The crazy wind yesterday probably put an end to the festivities but it was grand while it lasted. Besides, who doesn't like saying Ginkgo Biloba, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginkgo Biloba.....?

And yes, Virginia, there is a Ginko blog! Check out: The Ginkgo Pages where I found this gorgeous video.

Tuesday Blog Hopping

Charleston, S.C.

Nice bit of fence with the upside down hearts. I think it was Chalmers St. Another shot to add to my hearts album.

Charleston Insideout wrote a lovely post about coming home to Charleston.

The Accidental Cootchie Mama wants advice on the perfect gift for parents. What do you think?

Book of Joe, the world's best blogging anesthesiologist found this cute little disco ball key chain iPod speakers. Do I need one of these? A key chain, a speaker, a mini disco ball - all in one! Maybe I do.

Mental Meatloaf found some cool door shots in NYC.

It's lovely that it stays light so long these days but boy could we use some rain.

Hearty, har, har...

Hadrian's Wall, U.K.

A couple of years ago I set off with my friend Pat and her sister Kathie to hike across England from coast to coast following the excavation of Emperor Hadrian's wall. We walked just under 100 miles through gorgeous countryside, opening and closing at least that many pasture gates, dodging cows, stepping in sheep dung, exploring stone ruins, chapels and collapsing into big soft beds in beautiful old bed & breakfast inns at the end of the day.

I had my eye out for heart shapes on that trip and found them everywhere. The top one was on a door where we stayed on a working dairy farm. The photo below was outside the little shop where I bought my Roman hiking helmet. I was walking a Roman wall after all!

More photos of that hike in this album: Hadrian's Wall Hike

Lowcountry Valentine

Charleston, S.C.

You are more likely to be stopped by a boy on the streets of Charleston trying to sell you a rose made of Palmetto fronds than a heart but it made the perfect picture to feature for Valentine's Day. I hope all the sweethearts in my corner of the internet have had a perfect day. Picture me blowing kisses.

Now, according to tradition I have to do all the weekend chores in the last hour of my weekend. Blah.

Charleston Sweethearts

Charleston, S.C.

Short stories in the pavement.

Where are they now? Does Scraper still love Fish? Does Andrew bring Heidi back to their piece of pavement on anniversaries? Did Barko and Linko settle down and have little Binkos? Are Chan! & Mike! happy forever? Did "Love No One"? find the love of his life?

Luckily I can turn the corner for another episode of "As the Pavement Turns".

I Heart Charleston

Hearts, Charleston, SC

Eventually the pictures fall into categories and earn their own album. Hearts. Bikes. Sidewalk Graffiti. Travel. Cemeteries. Magnolia Gardens. Doors. Back Roads. Sometimes I didn't know things were a particular interest until I find I've taken enough pictures to rate a category.

Aaaargh........you my Valentine?

Pirate Flag, Buccaneer Restaurant, Faber St., Charleston, SC

We talked of pirates at work today and the fact that the Tall Ships would be sailing into Charleston Harbor this year. The lady I was talking to is a period reenactor and offered.....(drum roll) to let me be an official costumed Pirate's Wench at the Maritime Festival if I wanted. Haaa! Why would she ever think I might want to be a wench? Check out my grin in that picture. Drool.

I googled to find the source of today's image which is a piece of a pirate flag I spotted at the new Buccaneer restaurant on Faber St. The Buccaneer has an incredible amount of real Pirate loot. From weapons and costumes to gold coins and model ships. It is a treasure trove of authentic Pirateware. I didn't come across any explanation of the picture but I did find all kinds of valentine theme pirate booty for you.

Free down loadable Pirate Valentine's Cards because Even Pirates Need Love.

If you're feeling frisky, and maybe have a touch of the scurvy, hop around town with one of these fun Love Pirate Eye Patches.

Finally, in case you need a non pirate themed image for your sweetheart, here is a lowcountry Valentine image you can use.

Hearty, heart.

Morris St., Charleston, SC

I've been collecting pictures with hearts in them lately and now see hearts in everything. Odds are you have one. In a pinch I can add one. Romance is everywhere. I found this one on my sidewalk this weekend.

I have a gift for you today. Hunter S. Thompson Motivational Posters. Don't say I didn't give you anything for the New Year.
