Mini Libraries

Mini Library at Black Tap Coffee Shop, Beaufain St., Charleston, S.C.

I have been enchanted with some of the mini libraries people have been creating lately to make books available. This link shows them made from old newspaper boxes. Check out these images of little libraries built for yards. So cute! I haven't seen any like that but I was tickled to come across this box of books in front of Black Tap Coffee Shop on Beaufain St. Thanks folks!

When I was a flight attendant, I found that every crew room in every airport had two "boxes" - one was for books (some bought and read, some found on the plane after everyone was gone), one was for the little shampoos and lotions we'd gathered in all the hotels during our trips. The books were for us to share, the other items were donated to charity. The book box was always fun to rummage through when you were on a long layover and had nothing to read!

these little free libraries are so wonderful. i've hinted to mr. bc that he might build one for us to place in our garden.

Charleston is fortunate enough to have a number of bookcrossing zones where free books are available, except they are indoors and are not available after business hours. https://sites.google.com/site/charlestonbookcrossing/

Love that you collected shampoos and lotions for charity. I used to carry some on my back pack to give to a couple street ladies.

They are so cool! I am not on the sidewalk side of the street so it doesn't make sense for me but I like it.

Yes! I thought of that when I saw the library box. I have picked up book crossing books before. I wasn't sure if it still existed.

There is a little free library next to a house near my house in Connecticut. I showed it on my blog last year. I think this is a terrific movement. I read so much, I can never figure out what to do with the books afterward. Now I sometimes sneak a few into that little free library box.

Jack - I think that happens. Whenever I try to give away books at work (I have a take one, leave one shelf), people say, "Oh, I didn't know you wanted books, I have boxes I can bring you."

I think putting "leave one" is wise... it would be awful to come and find four hundred books piled up! Am just now facing a book-threshing situation in my house, as well.
