Goodness it was oddly quiet at work on this post election day. By the looks on faces a lot of people were biting their tongue so hard they were in pain. It's time for me to watch my recorded Colbert Report and see what the comedians made of the election.
I have a box of 1,000 holiday cards to get signed for the military. We will be setting out tables at Roper Hospital, Bon Secours St. Francis and Mount Pleasant Hospital tomorrow between 11 - 2 to get them signed for the holidays. I'll be in the lobby at St. Francis - West Ashley. Stop by if you want to bring a card of your own or write a message on one of ours. Let's show these ladies and gentlemen how much they are appreciated. We will get them shipped to the Red Cross for holiday delivery.

I started to agree with your first sentence, and then I looked again. I think it's the surrounding posts and the arched doorway in the background that make this so beautiful. The gate itself is cool, but taken by itself would not pack half the punch. The weathered stone and the color of the archway make the whole thing go POW!
I rarely watch Colbert or Jon Stewart but I did last night and thought Colbert's show, in particular, was great!
You are correct. It is the whole package. The door is great as well although it doesn't show much in this photo.
I record them every night and watch them in the evening. Love them both.
The scrollwork on the gate is dazzling. The lantern seems misplaced. Aesthetically, it would be better without it, but compromises need to be made for functionality.
Jack - It does work. It might be the angle I took this shot from. I'll see if I have a different more head on view.
