Cotton Pickin' Cotton

Eutawville, S.C.

Pick A Bale Of Cotton lyrics

We’re gonna jump down turn around
pick a bale of cotton,
jump down turn around pick a bale a day.
Jump down turn around
pick a bale of cotton,
jump down turn around pick a bale a day.

I’m gonna get on my knees and
pick a bale of cotton,
get on my knees and pick a bale a day.
Get on my knees and
pick a bale of cotton,
get on my knees and pick a bale a day.

It's amazing that something can be so beautiful and remind us of something so terrible.

My mother grew up on a farm. One of the things she had to do as a child was walk the fields choked with cotton wearing a bag and stuffing it with the cotton she pulled from the plants lined to the horizon. She said it was the dirtiest and most unpleasant of jobs she had to do as part of her family duties back on the farm.

Since we've moved "north" to Tennessee I miss the cotton fields we were surrounded by during our times in Alabama and South Carolina. Thanks for the nice view. (The ragweed I could do without! Sneeze!)

I can imagine. The scene is beautiful but the soil looked dry and dusty and the plants are low down.
