Charleston at Christmas

Dog & Horse, Church St., Charleston, SC
I am getting slack. Who knew we had a Dog & Horse Fine Art & Portraiture store on Church St.? I didn't. Click the link to check it out. Dogs and Horses doggone it.

The Meeting St. Inn looks festive as always at Christmas but do you notice something missing from the frequently photographed windows on Tradd St.? The pig is gone from the window. The property may have changed hands but I don't believe city council voted to let them take the pig out of the window.

Thanks for the Christmas smile!

Santa Hat, Tradd & Meeting St., Charleston, SC
I loooooooove people who go to so much trouble just to make us smile. The Santa hat is made by sail makers and put up every year after the Halloween witch's hat has been taken down. Thanks to the homeowner for the delightful moment she creates for so many as they pass by.

Charleston beauty

172 Tradd & Rutledge Ave. Charleston, S.C.
She is a beauty, isn't she? This house is tricky to get a good shot of because of all the foliage. This might be the best time of year to catch a photo.

Edit: Thanks to a kind commenter for leading me to Carolyne Roehm's blog that includes beautiful indoor shots of the renovation and design on this home. Wowza! This will be fun to follow.

More photos here of the Chisholm Alston Home and the sale details.

I am nodding off. I had a group of co-workers over for a celebration for a friend. I thought I had made enough food for everyone and neglected to consider that since my buddies are nurses and hospital workers they can't not bring more food. Taking care of everyone seems to be ingrained and includes red velvet cake. I have plenty of leftovers for the next few days. What a great group of ladies I work with. The mermaid insists on being in every pictures. She is such a diva.

Painted Lady house

Tradd St., Charleston, S.C.
If the definition of Painted Lady house includes three or more colors we have a winner in this Tradd St. home. It is a sweetie. As always, I am pleased not to be the one to paint it.

Check out these image results for Painted Lady houses. Lovely!

Heheh. Bonus joke I came across while googling Painted Ladies:
I once painted a lady in the nude. I almost froze to death.

Christmas Elves hard at work in Charleston

Meeting & Tradd St., Charleston, S.C.
How perfect was it that I was walking up Meeting St. as this glorious house was being decorated? Perfect, perfect, perfect. This scene will be in a thousand photographs just as it is at Halloween but mine will be the first because I stood on the sidewalk with the owner of the property as she watched her elves adjust the hat designed by a sail maker for her house. What a gift of joy she gives to Charleston each year with the creative and original decorations. Thank you Rebekah!

Favorite Trees

Tradd St., Charleston, S.C.

This sweetie on Tradd St. is on my "favorite trees" list and I stop to say hello when I pass by.

While we are on the topic of trees, here is link to the beautiful journal
South Carolina Lowcountry Nature Journaling & Art by Pam Johnson Brickell. She has pages dedicated to her favorite trees. Enjoy!

A carpet of blossoms underfoot

Charleston, S.C.

The crepe myrtle blossoms are as beautiful underfoot as they are on the branch and I had to keep admiring the ground as I walked on this carpet of blossoms on Saturday morning. People must think I am a batty old woman taking pictures of my feet. Fun!

Adding to the J-Board album

Tradd St., Charleston, S.C.

For Waldo. I am building him the complete collection of joggling board locations in the lowcountry. I am now the Official Joggling Board Spotter. Let me know if I have missed one. It looks like I may need to repost a few that were included in my earlier blog.
It's been a chaotic day in the stock market: Helium was up. Feathers were down. Beef steered into a bull market. Paper was stationary. Fluorescent tubing was dimmed in light trading. Pencils lost a few points. Hiking equipment was trailing. Elevators rose. Escalators continued their slow decline. Weights were up in heavy trading. Light switches were off.

Mining equipment hit rock bottom. Shipping lines stayed at an even keel. The market for raisins dried up. Coca Cola fizzled. Caterpillar stock inched up a bit. Balloon prices were inflated. Scott Tissue touched a new bottom. Knives were up sharply. Sun stocks peaked at midday. Diapers remain unchanged.

Too much going on lately. Be proactive. Pencil in a weekend nap right now.
