Grand live oak tree

Live oak, Magnolia Plantation, Charleston, SC
This wonderful live oak tree is at Magnolia Plantation in the part of the park where the Magnolia Cabin project tour "Slavery to Freedom" is.
Magnolia recognizes the importance of acknowledging the vital role that Gullah people and culture plays in any interpretation of Lowcountry history. By addressing this often overlooked part of the region's narrative, Magnolia seeks to respectfully afford credit where credit is due.
Visitors have the option to take a shuttle to the cabins, where they will experience an engaging and interactive discussion of the dynamic issues that shape this delicate inquiry. Afterward, time is given to allow everyone the opportunity to explore each cabin to appreciate the lengthy period in which the buildings were actively occupied - from the 1850s to the late 1990s. This arc of history conveys the tumultuous times continuously challenging African-American families from slavery, the Jim Crow/segregation era and through the modern Civil Rights period.

Foggy Mornings

Live oaks in the fog, Charleston, S,C.
It was beautiful but frighteningly foggy on my way to work this morning. I passed what looked like a serious accident and was happy to arrive safely myself. This was that I walked through from my car to my office. I don't have much to complain about do I?

Restaurant week jackpot at Al Di La this evening with a couple friends from work. I have some tasty leftovers tucked away in my frig for tomorrow. Now, I am going to settle down for a cheery (not!) little PBS Frontline documentary on North Korea that I recorded last night.

New favorite tree

A tree grows West Ashley, South Windermere, Charleston
This may be my new favorite tree. Wow. The trunk is quite thick and sturdy so it hasn't just popped up. This is quite amazing.

I found it in behind South Windermere when I walked down the greenway to try out the newly opened YoBo Cantina Fresca. You know my theory, if you walk to and from dinner there are no calories to consider. Yummy dinner by the way.

Favorite Trees

Tradd St., Charleston, S.C.

This sweetie on Tradd St. is on my "favorite trees" list and I stop to say hello when I pass by.

While we are on the topic of trees, here is link to the beautiful journal
South Carolina Lowcountry Nature Journaling & Art by Pam Johnson Brickell. She has pages dedicated to her favorite trees. Enjoy!

Trees.....

Charleston, S.C.

It is difficult to realize how great a part of all that is cheerful and delightful in the recollections of our own life is associated with trees.

Tree Huggers

Tree Hugger, Cypress Methodist Campground, Ridgeville, S.C.

These are two of my favorite trees. To my eyes they look like one has it's arm wrapped around the other. I spotted them at the Cypress Methodist Campground in Ridgeville, SC. Little wooden tent cabins are built in a circle with the worship hall in the center. Outside the circle of cabins is a wider circle of outhouses.

The campground is on the National Register Properties for South Carolina and they have been holding annual week long worship camps since 1794. It is a lovely peaceful spot but I suspect I am the only one who cares about the hugging trees.
