Roaming North Charleston

Basico Brunch, North Charleston, S.C.
It looks like a bright and cheery brunch considering it is a grey and rainy day, doesn't it? I met my son in North Charleston and we walked to Basico in Mixon neighborhood.

North Charleston is a changin' kids! Wow.....there are huge apartment buildings called The Flats being built next to Mixon and an upscale gourmet grocery store called Mixon Market across from the restaurant. I snooped around the restaurant and discovered that half of it was part of the Mixon Bath & Raquet Club. It is a dramatic change for that part of town.

North Charleston, who knew?

The food looked good until they slopped that pile of grits on it!

Who knew indeed. My son lives near Park Circle. He can walk to good restaurants, bars, coffee shops and now a bakery.

Hahah! I just had shrimp and grits for dinner. Yum.

Actually, that is a fried egg on my dish in this shot. The side dish is grits.

It was a happy surprise!

lowandslow - it is a refreshing change for that formerly rather sketchy neighborhood.

Joan, what's under the fried egg? Never heard of Mixon. What's close by?

Janie, Check this link for the neighborhood and location: http://mixson.com/
The apartments are what is going to change the area. There are so many of them. My little mind was blown.
Under the egg was delicious chicken but kinda soggy chips. It won't be my favorite dish but I'd be happy to go back and try other items. The guacamole was yummy.
