Tales of the City

Vanderhorst St., Charleston, S.C.
Can you imagine the stories these apartments could tell? This building is rented to a constant stream of college students with bikes on the porch and wet beach towels hanging over the porch. The intersection floods if it rains at high tide and I have pictures of students kayaking in this spot. I'll bet some of my readers have spent some time at the Frewill Apartment building.

Another weekend slipped through our fingers. I unpacked a few boxes, bought some outside chairs, a bird feeder, blinds for windows and scrubbed down an old stove. Yesterday I went to a memorial service for the husband of one of the Chaplain's at the hospital and was reminded again of what a close family of loving people I work with. The Chaplain herself served our operating room area and the memorial service was held in the hospital chapel. The Operating Room nurses prepared a feast, a nurse from Pain Management sang at the service and a nurse from Ambulatory Care brought in bouquets of fresh flowers from her garden. Although the couple had no children so many people came I had to keep pulling chairs from the classrooms to seat them all. It was very touching.

Good night kids!

The spirit of togetherness must have been very healing. Wonderful cooperative and loving effort!

I think Jim and I are returning to Charleston, actually Mt. Pleasant next winter for two months. Whoopee! It's rivaling Santa Fe in my heart! Would never have believed that!!

You sound as though you are making great progress in getting settled. Love the building in your photo today.

Looks much too nice for student housing. The frat house on Animal House is what I usually think of when I imagine student housing.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. They sound like an amazing couple.

The memorial service sounds like it was attended by some fantastic people. How thoughtful! You were fortunate through the years to know your friend, and he was fortunate to work with such a loving bunch of people!

What a lovely building! Not all college students are animals... I didn't turn into an animal until after graduation! *wink* I hope whoever lives there enjoys the hell out of it, and appreciates the historic loveliness.

It isn't that nice. It is quite a character spot. I imagine they could write a book about what goes on each semester.

The couple didn't have children and created their own family. It clearly paid off.

Not all college kids are animals but.......a bunch of them are! Just before I moved I spotted a kid outside my window. I shouldn't be able to see anyone at window level but he was jumping on someone's SUV while his friends moved all the trash cans to the middle of the street to block traffic. Just another Sunday night.
