The Birthplace of America

Avenue of Oaks at Charlestowne Landing, Charleston, S.C.
Check out my new wheels! Nothing like a grand setting to show off a budget Walmart bike. Heheh. I've never been a bike rider but my new neighborhood is next to a bikeway, greenway and quiet neighborhoods so that may need to change. Last summer I took up kayaking so maybe this will be the year for two wheels. I started in a modest manner.

This morning I figured out a way to cram the bike in the back of my car and went to zip around the peaceful pathways at Charlestowne Landing. There was a brief rain shower and I took shelter in one of the historical cabins until it passed. It was lovely. I'll do this again. When my kids were little before the park was renovated they used to rent bikes here and I remembered what a great time that was.

I hope everyone has had a good weekend. Twelve more hours and we'll be rushing off to work again scrambling to make up for the short week. It has been sweet while it lasted.

I love your bike in such a beautiful setting!

I've been thinking of getting a bike, but it would have to have big fat tires, a wide, comfortable, padded seat, and absolutely, positively would need to have coaster brakes (for some reason, I don't trust those "hand brakes"). Yours seems to fit the bill...I'll have to check Walmart.

And this bike would be faster than the alligator, right?

Pixel - Yes, the background improves the look of the bike but I think it will suit. I was looking for the same features you mentioned - no frills.

Excellent, Joan! You will love biking in your area. I took a biking trip in Charleston - Beaufort - Savannah two years ago, and it was superb. I hope you do have at least some gears . . . you will enjoy biking more once you get the hang of shifting gears. Love your top photo!

If it's really your bike, wouldn't it be blue?

Charlestonjoan said...

Nope no gears. This is definitely a beginning model. I have biked very little in my life.

Hahah! You have my number :) It should be. This was a quick purchase and was already assembled on the rack.

I have a Walmart special but I got it off of Craigslist. Love the rain soaked images, the light was just right.

Glad to hear Charles Towne Landing is still fun to bike around! I'd love to take the children next time we are in town. Do you think it is possible to safely bike from Avondale out there?

Yeah for craigslist! Thanks, the light was perfect for photos.

Hmmm....I don't know. I squeezed mine in my car this time. Now I need a bike carrier and a helmet I guess.

A bike wherever it came from could not ask for a more fabulous entrance into the blog sphere Joan, the oak trees coming into their spring/summer foliage are spectacular! Had to laugh, scrolling down the images and... DOUBLE TAKE!! there's an alligator just lying about..really!!!??

Thanks Kate!

Really! And he was just a little fella. The signs all warned to keep an eye out for them and they were right.
