Interesting: In the list of 10 of the world's most unusual places to spend the night, the Edisto River Tree houses at Canady's are Number 1.
Hmmmm. Wonder who wrote that list? I've always thought it would be very cool to canoe in and stay in one but top place in the world?
Edisto River Treehouses
Private river access for the treehouses allow you to come and go as you wish. Fully furnished, they sleep 2 to 8.
Each treehouse is
* tucked in the woods out of view of any other
* nestled in the trees on the river's edge
* located on its own private, gurgling creek
Rental of the treehouse includes the use of a canoe and a shuttle to the put-in. Paddle in on Day 1, spend your nights in the treehouse and then paddle out on your last day. Cost: $125 per person per night.

I had never heard of the treehouses before, but several friends have stayed in the monastery in Vienna, and absolutely recommend it!
I have heard of treehouses in the Amazon. We contemplated staying in one when my hubbie and I took a trip to Brazil a few years back. But the reviews on Trip Advisor said the place was actually quite "touristy", so we found a more "authentic" lodge.
I think it would be fun to sleep in a treehouse though. Not sure about the canoe...

I looked up the treehouses on the Edisto River website, with the thought that perhaps it might be a good birthday trip for my husband and I... they responded to my email with a suggestion that I call them on the phone. Their website is not very up to date technologically speaking (no way to check the availability or the prices online) but the one photo of the small treehouse looks lovely.

I really enjoy your photos of Charleston, Joan. And I would say about the Edisto River (here comes the sales plug), canoeing down river...no better way to spend the day!
Um, it seems rather pricey, especially if more than one person is staying. $600/night for a hunter's blind, just because four people are using it? I don't think so :-)
The canoe trips are appealing, though.
Marcheline---You are absolutely correct! Our website is terribly out of date and I have been trying for well over a year to get the owner to have it updated.

Christopher: Amen to that. The Edisto is a lovely river to canoe. I haven't done that for a long time. I haven't been hanging out with canoe types lately and it isn't as tempting to go alone. I stayed at the cabins at Ghivens State Park on the Edisto years ago. Very cool.

It is a wonderful river to canoe. We got engaged canoeing down the Edisto, so I can recommend it for sure! If there had been a tree house to camp in, I think that would have made it an even more cool experience.
