This wonderful live oak tree is at Magnolia Plantation in the part of the park where the Magnolia Cabin project tour "Slavery to Freedom" is.

Magnolia recognizes the importance of acknowledging the vital role that Gullah people and culture plays in any interpretation of Lowcountry history. By addressing this often overlooked part of the region's narrative, Magnolia seeks to respectfully afford credit where credit is due.
Visitors have the option to take a shuttle to the cabins, where they will experience an engaging and interactive discussion of the dynamic issues that shape this delicate inquiry. Afterward, time is given to allow everyone the opportunity to explore each cabin to appreciate the lengthy period in which the buildings were actively occupied - from the 1850s to the late 1990s. This arc of history conveys the tumultuous times continuously challenging African-American families from slavery, the Jim Crow/segregation era and through the modern Civil Rights period.

Charleston finally defrosts

We are melting, we are melting! I finally got to work and caught a little bit of snow left in the meditation garden. It has been hard not being in scenic areas to take pictures during this extraordinary snow event.

While I have you, here is a fun Charleston Ski Resort video that was quickly pulled together.

The kids get one last day out of school since many of the rural roads are still packed thick with ice but for the most part today was back to normal.

Spring in Charleston

I woke startled from a dream where a tree cutting machine went down my street with a long blade out and cut down every tree on both sides of the street. Oddly, as dreams are, the logs were neatly stacked in all of our yards. A gentleman was running behind the vehicles yelling back at us saying, "I'm gonna take care of it, I'm gonna take care of it!"

So there. Maybe that is what motivated me to leap out of bed and get a picture of this avenue of oaks with the azaleas in bloom before the glaring morning sun hit it.
