I walked down to Avondale in between the thundershowers and got a look at the new murals promoting the Righteous Gemstones - HBO series being filmed locally and beginning tomorrow on HBO. John Goodman is the star and I believe Danny McBride the producer. Some of my friends have been extras. Sadly I don't have HBO so not sure when I'll get the chance to see it.

I like the way the eyes looked out under the window. There are a few new murals behind the shops in Avondale. I walk through periodically to see what is new.

This looks like one of Patch Whisky's murals behind the Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Avondale. It was a bright splash of color only improved by the scooter parked in front of it.

I only caught the shot because I went out marching the very minute I got home from work to get my walk in before dark. I'm not a fan of this daylight saving time.

I especially like it when real greenery tumbles and grows over painted murals. I don't have much time this evening so I'm sharing a quick splash of color! In fact, some bloggers feature a Mural Monday theme so it all fits.

I attended the city planning report on the future of my part of town - West Ashley, this evening. West Ashley has been left out of the revitalization that has been going on the upper peninsula and Mount Pleasant. They showed lots of fancy dreams and hope for the Citadel Mall area, the Bees Ferry traffic circle and Sam Rittenburg Boulevard. If a quarter of it comes true I will be pleased!

I only had time to walk through as they were setting up but it gave me a chance to check out the recent mural additions in the alley way behind the shops at Avondale. I am glad I've taken pictures over time so I will have captured any that are painted over. 

This Sunday the Charleston Art Outdoor Initiative and Gallery (chART) is hosting its 4th neighborhood creative arts festival from noon until 6 pm. New murals in Avondale

It's always worth a detour behind the businesses in Avondale and this time I caught up with quite a few fresh mural works. I even spotted a couple of gentlemen unloading cans of paint so I'll need to check back soon. Check my smugmug album for more photos of Charleston mural art.

One of my favorites is even better with natural greenery overgrowing it. I had an early after-work dinner at Taste of India last night and walked behind the Avondale shops to introduce an unsuspecting friend to the murals. I called it our Friday Art Walk.

I am off to walk before it starts raining again. Where shall I hike this morning?

Avondale Trash Monster

I imagine that these folks don't have to take their trash out. Somebody looks like he eats it all up and licks his lips. Trash monster!

I came home to an almost finished ceiling in my study so it's worth dusting and mopping another room to live in again. One more bedroom to go. This feels like it has taken forever. I put off coming home long enough that I stopped by Sesame at Citadel Mall for the only thing I have ever eaten at Sesame - roasted corn on the cob and the ultimate grilled cheese. So good.

Walking the Dog

Time to walk the dog before it gets too hot out.

I didn't realize quite how much I use my debit card until I couldn't. Bank of America sent me an email alert of suspicious charges. When we backtracked down the list, although they had stopped a $800 charge, there were a series of charges to dating sites including "Christian Cafe." Hmmmph. I hope I meet someone nice. 

I am steering my walk past Harris Teeter this morning. I bought all the ingredients for a Key Lime Pie except for the cream cheese.

Rogue Elephant in Avondale

I am clearly on a mural kick again. This giant rogue elephant is charging a parking lot in Avondale. I grew up listening to stories of rogue elephants terrorizing villages and being hunted down. It was a frightening thrill to imagine. I think I can take this one down but I'll wait until I look him in the eyeballs. It wouldn't be fair to attack a blind elephant.

In fun news, one of my volunteer gentlemen fell in love with the co-worker in my office suite. How fun is that?! I threw a ice cream social for them today before they sneak off to get married and run away on a vacation/slash honeymoon in Ireland. Congratulations Dianna and Bobby! I wish you many years of happiness.

I was checking on the progress of the murals behind the Avondale shops of Savannah Highway when I came across this one in the beginning stages. This mural is by Designs by Empwr and will be based on the image she is holding below. I'll have to go back soon so I can share the finished mural.

Best No Parking sign

Living in a college rental part of town, I am especially tuned in to No Parking signs. I've collected quite a number and variety of signs and this takes the cake. I don't think I would park here. Love it! This is one of the murals behind the shops at Avondale.

I just moved furniture, rolled up my oriental carpet and lugged it to the porch by myself. Huff puff. The folks from Rug Masters are to come by to get it in the morning for cleaning. I'm not really worried about anyone stealing it overnight since I can hardly move it.
