Ready to dig

Garden tool gate, Hwy 52, SC
I am always willing to detour to admire this gate made of garden tools at the now abandoned Carolina Nursery on Hwy 52 between Goose Creek and Monks Corner. No matter what becomes of the property I hope the gate is salvaged and reinstalled somewhere cool.

Have a good weekend kids. I have the folks in the path of hurricane Harvey in my thoughts.

Bull St. gate

Bull St. gate, Charleston, SC
I was determined to reduce my cable bill this year since it has been gradually increasing to a point that doesn't make sense for one person living alone. TV shouldn't be one of my highest monthly expenses. I called to cancel tv cable and was talked into stepping back to basic cable to reduce the bill. Now I have no idea what will be working when I turn my tv on. Sheeesh. I can't record anything or view any of my previously recorded shows but most cable channels still seem to show up for awhile. Then I get no signal. Then I do. I reckon I am in the punishment stage. Thanks Wow!

Today's feature is one of my favorite gates on Bull St. I squirm around trying to make the statue the centerpiece of the image.

Bedtime! Off you go. Turn the lights out. No more stories, no more water. Get to sleep kids.

Don't fence me in

College of Charleston, Charleston, SC
  1. Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
    Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
    Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
    Don't fence me in
  2. UNLESS! Unless the fence is this pretty.
  3. In that case I might consider being fenced in.

Charleston Gates

Gate, Rutledge Ave., Charleston, S.C.
Isn't this a beauty? This gate is on Rutledge Ave. a little above Colonial Lake.

I had this entire week written off for Jury Duty and then by the end of the morning I was excused because I had served within three years. Thank you! I grabbed a sandwich at Bull St. gourmet and headed out to work the afternoon with most people assuming I was still gone. Sweet! I would have stayed and served but when they mentioned they had cases that would drag over through next week I didn't know how I was going to pull that off.

Secret Gardens

Wentworth St., Charleston, S.C.
One of my favorite things about walking on the Charleston peninsula is sneaking peeks at all of the beautiful gardens behind the gates. In this case the gate is part of the attraction.  Sweet.

It's Wednesday, kids. Hang on.

Charleston Gate

Legare St. Gate, Charleston, S.C.
This is one of the most beautiful gates in Charleston. I am not liking the early dark. Hmmmph. This is cutting into my walking time. I am having to stock up on pictures for you on the weekend.

Goodness it was oddly quiet at work on this post election day. By the looks on faces a lot of people were biting their tongue so hard they were in pain. It's time for me to watch my recorded Colbert Report and see what the comedians made of the election.

I have a box of 1,000 holiday cards to get signed for the military. We will be setting out tables at Roper Hospital, Bon Secours St. Francis and Mount Pleasant Hospital tomorrow between 11 - 2 to get them signed for the holidays. I'll be in the lobby at St. Francis - West Ashley. Stop by if you want to bring a card of your own or write a message on one of ours. Let's show these ladies and gentlemen how much they are appreciated. We will get them shipped to the Red Cross for holiday delivery.

Floral Gate

Gate, Charleston, S.C.
There are gates and then there are gates. Isn't this lovely? Again, I'll say these people should be able to put a jar out for tourists to toss coins in to pay for the upkeep of this delightful scene.

Yikes, it is hot out. I've noticed that the latest thing is for people to take pictures of the thermostats inside their cars and post them on facebook. There were quite a few over 100 degrees today.

I had a good day, got a lot done and made it to People Like Us at the Terrace Theater for 4:45 pm.  I looked around and spotted about four other solo movie goes at the same show. Watch out couples - we are taking over! We were together alone, or alone together sitting in the dark theater on a Friday afternoon. My message to single people is "come out, come out, where ever you are". It's a sweet tradition even if they were out of black tea.

I was stomping my feet and growling about them being out of black tea when two people came up, got my attention and told me they liked my hair. Cheered me up tremendously. I need to remember to compliment strangers more. It is the most lovely thing.

Have a good weekend, kids

Shallow Thoughts

King St., Charleston, S.C.
  • I buy the occasional powerball ticket but never remember to check it. Never. I simply buy a day or two of fantasy. I assume that if I really win something I'll read a headline in the P & C saying, "King St. Convenience Store Sells Winning Ticket" and I'll hope to find it crumpled up in the bottom of my backpack.
  • Someone landed on my blog after googling "elderly women to date". Sad.
  • Someone landed on my blog after googling "parks in Afghanistan." Amazing. I walked through parks in Kabul many years ago.
  • True shallow confessions - I watch Tosh.0. He can be so awful with a happy smile.
  • Isn't it amazing how people believe your entire job consists of the one tiny project that relates to them? Sorry caller. I know my tone was icy.
  • I went to bed perfectly happy and woke up wanting a black trench coat.  How do these things happen?
  • The end of tomato season is scaring me.
  • I need some of Chef Nico Romo's curried crab soup soon. Mmmmm.
  • Am I the only one that finds the Charleston Farmer's Market claustrophobic? There is an entire park available. Can't we move the stalls back a few feet so people can actually walk? Huh, huh, huh?
  • It's already dark too early to take pictures on my evening walkabout so you get the leftover weekend shots. I wouldn't advise climbing over this gate on King St.
  •  G'night kids.
