To whom much is given, much must be protected:

Guard pigs on Murray Blvd., Charleston, SC
To whom much is given, much must be protected. Meet the guard critters of Murray Blvd. and South Battery. I found pigs, lions, dogs and teddy bears!

What a lovely sunny day. We have rain coming this evening and cold tomorrow but everyone was out enjoying the sunshine as I walked this morning.

    South Battery beauty

    56 South Battery, Charleston, SC
The cut wood designs in the covered Gothic entryway and the ironwork have always caught my eye on this house at 56 South Battery. It looks like some major work is being done to restore the fragile porches. This link has a great old photo of the home called the Osborne McCrady home and great shots here as well. She is a beauty!

was like walking through gauze or inhaling damaged silk.”

    Window display - South Battery

Rutledge & South Battery, Charleston, SC

I love this home at Rutledge & South Battery because I look forward to seeing their window display. It used to be ships and now it is horse themed. Thanks folks!

Twins refusing to dress the same

    61 South Battery, Charleston, SC
It's interesting when joined homes go their separate ways for decor. It looks like the one on the right sold recently and is going through a renovation. Because it is a recent sale we still get to take the house tour on the real estate page - let's go snooping!

    Freshly painted & gift wrapped

    4 South Battery, Charleston, SC
One of Charleston's most beautifully renovated homes looks pretty as a picture gift wrapped for the holidays.
The Villa Margherita is an Italian Renaissance house at 4 South Battery, Charleston, South Carolina. It was built in 1892 and early 1893 for Andrew Simonds. The house is of brick with a Portland cement coating according to the plans by the architect, Frederick P. Dinkelberg. The decorative work on the four Corinthian columns and frieze on the front was executed by Morrison Brothers of New York City. The entrance of the house features a large atrium with a fountain.[1]Between 1905 and 1953, the house served as a hotel. During that use, guests included William Howard TaftGrover Cleveland, andTheodore Roosevelt.[2] Sinclair Lewis was a guest at the hotel, where he completed the manuscript for Main Street.[3] From 1943 to 1946, the United Seaman's Service leased the hotel and rented rooms to seamen and their families.[4] In 1961, James and Mary Wilson bought the house. Their daughter, Mary Wilson, sold it for $3 million to Stephen and Mary Hammond in September 2012.[5]
I love this no-man's land of a week between Christmas and New Years and I'd like to have a couple more please. No meetings, few phone calls, a chance to finish up projects for the year and get things ready for the next. I met friends at Sesame for their half price burger night on the way home.

    Zoom, zoom, zoom!

    South Battery, Charleston, SC
Zoom, zoom, zoom! Isn't this a cutie?!

I parked on the Battery and walked the lower peninsula yesterday morning. It was a glorious Charleston morning. The oleanders are in bloom and the sky was dramatic. I reached for my heavy camera and kicked myself when I discovered I had left the battery charging. I never do that! I always take one picture of either my office or my kitchen just to make sure everything is working - except yesterday. Grrrr.

Everything was so very fine that I took a few shots with my cell phone. I couldn't resist capturing that cute little car on South Battery. The other shot I took as usual but my phone took some freelance editing priviledges and turned it into what looks like a vintage postcard.

Interesting note - when I first came to Charleston, I rented the kitchen house behind the house in the top picture for a year. I did not have a car like that.

I am just back from a quick walk around the neighborhood to balance sitting on my butt in front of a computer half the day at work. I showed a couple of kids the step counter on my phone and they skipped along with me as far as they were allowed watching the numbers climb and then made me promise to circle the block to see how many steps I had added, and then again. I got my 10,000!

    Doors of Charleston

    South Battery, Charleston, S.C.
One of the coolest entrances in Charleston. Isn't this different? Interesting woodwork as well as great iron work.

It's been happy chaos at work this week. I've had holiday luncheons for volunteers at Roper Hospital, Mount Pleasant Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, the Patient Representative Volunteer group. One more luncheon tomorrow when the Ambulatory Care nurses cook for their volunteers and those ladies can cook! I may need to be carried out of the hospital.

    November Blossoms

    South Battery, Charleston, S.C.
I love it that we still have blossoms even though the weather has been cooler.  I rented the little kitchen house behind this home the first year I was in Charleston. It has been renovated since then and looks beautiful. It wasn't quite so fancy when we were there but we enjoyed living there very much.

I hosted thirty some eager students interested in learning about physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy as careers this evening. These career sessions I started a few years ago have become so popular kids compete to sign up as soon as they are announced and by the day after they are posted there is a waiting list. Our success has done us in. Thanks to the staff for opening the Rehab Gym at St. Francis and getting all the kids involved. It made for a long day but according to all the smiles, well worth it.

    Through the veil

    South Battery, Charleston, S.C.

It is such a delicate vine twisting it's way around the entire fence with little red blossoms. Beautiful. My little pocket camera isn't doing too badly for most purposes and it isn't such a weight to carry on my walks.

    Hello weekend, my old friend.
