Lowcountry Heart Walk - 2014

ABC News Channel 4, Charleston, S.C.
Adorable children, cute dogs and heart disease survivors and their loved ones, I couldn't really go wrong with photo ops. I was up bright and early to join the Lowcountry Heart Walk at Liberty Square. It was grand to see so many familiar faces gathered together to raise money for the cause. Floating hearts for a cause

Charleston, S.C.
Each and every heart is fluttering in the breeze in honor or in memory of someone who has/had heart disease. Some of them even have a loved one's name tucked inside. I've had crafty volunteers sewing them to hang on one of the trees at the hospital raising money for the Lowcounty Heart Walk tomorrow morning. It looks so pretty I will have a hard time taking them down! Many thanks to all the sponsors and my model above, Amber Defago from the American Heart Association.

I believe that research into heart disease has certainly paid off. For the most part we know what we need to be doing to prevent heart disease and procedures have been developed to treat so many heart conditions. It's good to be on a successful team! Additional donations won't offend me at all: Lowcountry Heart Walk - Team Walk this Way.

Music for the Heart

Glamnation plays Music for the Heart Concert, Charleston, S.C.
It's been a full day, kids! I started by hosting an award luncheon for 125 hospital volunteers at the Marriott on Lockwood Blvd. and then headed to the Music for the Heart Concert at Cinebarre in Mt. Pleasant. What fun! I was sorry to only catch the last song by Sugar High but this was the fourth and finale band, Glamnation! - Charleston's premier 80s Hairband tribute. Hair Metal, Glam Metal, Spandex, Leather, Aqua-Net, Big Hair Band. They were great and put on a fun show. Friend them on Facebook at Glamnation and keep them in mind if you need to book a band.

Thanks to my friends Richard Larson and Raymond Santiago and their team for coordinating this concert supporting one of my favorite causes, the American Heart Association.

Lowcountry Heart Walk 2013

Lowcountry Heart Walk 2013, Charleston, S.C.
Cute kids, dogs, Star Wars figures, heart survivors - I couldn't go wrong with photo-ops like that! More than any event the Lowcountry Heart Walk is a family affair. Seeing so many people wearing red ball caps indicating that they are survivors of heart disease brings it home how far we have come in knowing how to prevent and treat heart disease.

More photos uploading here: Lowcountry Heart Walk 2013. Grab 'em and tag 'em kids!

Lowcountry Heart Walk - 2012

Heart Heroes!, Lowcountry Heart Walk, Charleston, S.C.
We played with a Heart Heroes theme for the Lowcountry Heart Walk this year and had almost too much fun with it! Our winning team came wearing full super hero costumes and spent the entire morning posing for photo ops. This is a gang from our Radiology Department. What great sports! Thank you my Super Heroes!

My work life has been happy chaos lately but my team of over 525 walkers raised over $30,000. I work with some great folks and it showed today. Thanks to everyone who chipped in to make it such a successful day! More photos uploading here: Lowcountry Heart Walk 2012.

I ran into Suzie Townsend from Townsend Tales!

Dear People, Let's help other people and fight sickness.

Super Heroes for Heart Health

I've had pirates (Me HEARTies!) and Med in Red dresses promoting the Lowcountry Heart Walk in past year, now let me introduce a couple of our Super Heroes for Heart Health.

I do work with a bunch of good sports!

These rascals work in our business office. Debbi Tanner on the right is a Triple Heart-by-Pass Survivor herself and had heart surgery May of 1993. She has been supporting a healthy life style including eating healthy ever since. Super Sassy Survivor's fundraising web site can be found here. She is accompanied by her Super Supporter Laura Icard. Love you two ladies!

Now, what shall I wear?  Super Hero......hmmmm.

The Lowcountry Heart Walk will be held on 9/29. It is a three mile fun walk starting at Liberty Square and heading along the waterfront and back. All good stuff for a good cause. Join the fun here. I love the progress made in heart disease treatment and prevention and intend to take at least 500 walkers to the event. My fundraising site is here. I'd be delighted to see you there.

Lowcountry Heart Walk 2011

Lowcountry Heart Walk 2011

Another year! What a great gang of people turned out for the Lowcountry Heart Walk on Saturday morning. I am always touched by the survivors,  from babies in arms to seniors wearing red ball caps to show that they are survivors. It was crisp and cool - perfect for the event. Thanks to Prisca for leading the Zumba class, the vintage cars, my Pirate King and Queen, the Lifestyle Award nominees and winners, the cute kiddies, dogs and pets, the AHA staff and everyone who showed up and made it so much fun! Y'all are the best!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who contributed and helped me reach our goal! It is a cause we can all feel good about supporting.

David Quick from the Post & Courier did a nice write up. I've been in uploading hell with my pictures but I think most of them are now in this album so help yourselves, grab and tag: Lowcountry Heart Walk 2011

Start! Lowcountry Heart Walk - 2010

Start! Lowcountry Heart Walk, Charleston, S.C.

A few of my closest friends got up bright and early and joined me at the Heart Walk this morning. Whew...it got a little warm out there but everyone seemed to be having a great time. Adorable kids, dogs, Zumba warm up (thanks Prisca!) and I heard there was even a goat!

More photos here.

We had 695 walkers registered on our team and last I checked, had raised over $52,000 for the American heart Association. Good stuff, kids. I am so very proud of my gang of pirates. We stormed the city in style! Thanks everyone!
