Archdale & Beaufain

Archdale & Beaufain St., Charleston, SC
What a sweet street corner. Folks who have lived in Charleston remember it as Celia's Porta Via restaurant and to my happy surprise you can still order her specialties online! Check this website. I am very temped by that lasagna! What a fun dinner party it would be.

Walk with me - Beaufain St.

Beaufain St., Charleston, SC
It's fun to walk downtown Charleston on the busiest shopping day of the year when you aren't actually looking for anything to buy. I parked and walked along Beaufain St. and enjoyed all the splashes of color along the way.

Beaufain St. pinkie

Beaufain St., Charleston, SC
Pink!

The funny thing is, I had this image in my camera and then happened to be talking to a gentleman who mentioned painting his house pink. Yep. It was this one. He wanted it to have a New Orleans mood. I imagine like the other houses in pink, they have to be painted brighter to allow for the quick fading in the sun. Click here to see every other time I have mentioned the word pink in this blog.

Beaufain St. bike racks

Beaufain St, bike racks, Beaufain St., Charleston, SC
Best looking bike racks in Charleston. They are in front of Memminger Auditorium on Beaufain St. I was reminded that the design is the Spoleto festival logo symbol.

It's Friday kids! We made it. I worked like a mad woman all day and made it to crash in my matinee movie. I saw Allied at Citadel Mall movie theater and let the work week wash away.

I don't know how much longer this deal will last but for the time being you can get a Charleston Magazine subscription for $14.95 with the code work CYBER. It was probably a cyber Monday deal but just worked for me a few minutes ago. Thanks Charleston Magazine!

Before & After - Beaufain St.

Beaufain & Rutledge Ave., Charleston, SC
I like it when things don't change too very much. I believe these are condos now and still very nicely kept up at the corner of Colonial Lake on Beaufain St. and Rutledge Ave.

Last night I mentioned the Lowcountry Day of Giving. Holy cow. We gave over $4 million in twenty four hours. This was a national campaign but the lowcountry had the most generous number of donors by far. Amazing. I made donations to the Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic and Water Missions International in support of the earthquake in Nepal.

I finished watching four seasons of The Killing on Netflix. What shall I do with my life now? Every time I had a free half hour I watched another episode.

Teeny, tiny houses of Charleston - Beaufain St.

Tiny houses of Charleston, 76 Beaufain St., Charleston, S.C.
Here is another wee house. This one is really small at 650 square feet. It was recently on the market so the information is still available.

76 Beaufain St is currently off the market. This 1 bedroom, 1 bath house located at 76 Beaufain St, Charleston, SC has approximately 650 square feet. It is was last listed for $399,000 and had a price per sqft of $613.
It's been an odd day after mid-week days off. This felt like Monday and yet, now it is the weekend. Yay! I can get so much done on these quiet days at work with few phone calls and no meetings. I stopped by the mall on my way home just in case they were giving anything away after the holiday but that didn't seem to be the case.

Colonial Lake Condos

Beaufain St., Charleston, S.C.
Drat. Had an entry written up and lost internet access and the entry. The image saved so will share that and I am off to my bed. This building at 63 Beaufain St. is a cornerstone of the Colonial Lake block. It is condos now, small and not so cheap but I expect a nice place to hang your hat. G'night kids!

Mini Libraries

Mini Library at Black Tap Coffee Shop, Beaufain St., Charleston, S.C.

I have been enchanted with some of the mini libraries people have been creating lately to make books available. This link shows them made from old newspaper boxes. Check out these images of little libraries built for yards. So cute! I haven't seen any like that but I was tickled to come across this box of books in front of Black Tap Coffee Shop on Beaufain St. Thanks folks!

Bloggers Walking

Bloggers Walking, Beaufain St., Charleston, S.C.
This isn't like my usual "Blog Hopping" category where I link to local blogs. This time I actually bumped into two of my favorite local bloggers! Left is Kristen Walker from Charleston InsideOut  and in the middle is Jessica from Children of the Corm - a Charleston garden blog. We asked a couple passing by to take our picture. How fun is this! I was pleased that they recognized me as I marched by.

Wentworth Mansion, Charleston, S.C.
I had my camera ready and in hand because I had just snapped a picture of the Wentworth Mansion. The impressive building used to be an insurance company when I moved here and now is winning awards left and right as a top destination hotel. What a great building.

It's the weekend kids! Celebrate.

Ding Dong the School is Gone

Memminger Elementary, Charleston, S.C.

Going, going, almost gone. I heard that Memminger Elementary and Buist Academy were two of the schools on the peninsula that were being demolished after studies showed they wouldn't be safe in an earthquake. My kids went to both the schools so I thought I'd grab a few pictures before they were gone but I was almost too late.

We moved to Charleston when my children were ready for kindergarten and grade one and were immediately told there was no public school on the peninsula that they should go to. I'd lived where there were good and bad teachers but had never lived anywhere where I was told that a whole school was bad. There was only one other white family at Memminger at that time and to this day people call out recognizing me as the mother of the only white kid in their class.

Years later one after the other, they were each accepted at Buist Academy on Calhoun St. which was not only the closest neighborhood school but also an academic magnet school. How odd to see bulldozers tearing down the auditorium and cafeteria they went to every day. It looks like they might leave the main street front building in place. I remember trying to speak very clearly when I mentioned that my kid was "a Buist kid" because people tended to think I said they were "abused kids".
