Smashed Glass Arts, Wragg Square, Charleston, SC    

I stopped by the oasis greenhouse created by Smashed Glass Arts in Wragg Square this morning. Look closely to see that the structure is made from cut up used water bottles.

Smash Glass Art Studio is a non-profit organization created to encourage art [of all facets], sustainability and community building. We offer free classes to the northeast region of Charleston County, South Carolina; from Awendaw to Santee. We smash barriers and build relationships between generations and races using broken, recycled and found materials. The Smash Glass experience includes Fine Art,  Dance, Fashion and Guitar - all of which use a S.T.E.A.M approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). ​​

Not a bad scene for mid February in Charleston. I took this shot on the weekend when it was bright and sunny unlike today with it's windy and dreary weather.

I started my day with brunch at the Marina Variety Store restaurant at a brunch honoring a group of volunteers. You really can't beat it for a full plate of food at a reasonable price overlooking the water, can you?

The news on the street in Charleston this evening is that Boeing employees voted today not to unionize and the fact that President Trump will be paying a visit to Boeing on Friday for the unveiling of the new 787-10 jet. Are we ready for this, Charleston?

I was pleased to see that a couple of my volunteers made the Post & Courier in a photo from Valentine's Day. Fun!

Pecha Kucha 18

They couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect evening for the spring outdoors Pecha Kucha event.This session was held at Wragg Square in front of Second Presbterian Church. It was a glorious and perfect Charleston evening. I wasn't too sure about how long the lines might be for the pizza so I stopped at Publix and picked up picnic goodies.

Pecha Kucha, Japanese for the sound of conversation, is a mix of show-and-tell, open-mike night and happy hour that has become a forum for ideas on design, architecture and other forms of creativity. Devised in 2003 in Tokyo, Pecha Kucha Night has spread virally to over 135 cities around the world as an informal forum for creative people to meet, network and show their work in public.For more about Pecha Kucha you can visit the global website. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for just 20 seconds, giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.
