Waaa, waaaa, waaaaa. It is so hot I was tempted to take a dunk in the fountain with the kids.

It's a bad sign when this early in the summer it's already too hot to walk at night and I sit at home eating ice cream pops. Last night I did walk down through Avondale and taking a short cut through the community garden on Magnolia I was given a delicious warm tomato. Thanks neighbors!

Winter in Charleston

This scene will look completely different in a month or so. This looks like winter! I will do an "after" shot as a follow up. What lovely weather we are having after that cold spell shocked us so.

Stay healthy my friends. People are dropping like flies with the flu. I wash my hands a million times a day hoping for the best.

In between the frequent thundershowers lately we have been treated to beautiful skies. The pineapple fountain is a draw for every kid to explore on these hot days. I don't know if this story about the symbolism of the pineapple is true but I like it:

The pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality since the days of the early American colonies. The legend began with the sea captains of New England, who sailed among the Caribbean Islands and returned to the colonies bearing their cargo of fruits, spices and rum. According to the legend, the captain would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside his home to let his friends know of his safe return from sea. The pineapple was an invitation for them to visit, share his food and drink, and listen to tales of his voyage.

I need to get to my bed kids. I download books from the library, forget about them until I get the three day expiration notice and then I have to read every spare minute in the race to finish the book before it disappears.

It won't be long before this marsh is lush and green.

Years ago I stood admiring the scene and a couple of tourists walked by and said, "If they cleaned out some of this grass this would be right pretty."  Gulp.

This picture is for my sister Shirley in Edmonton who sent me a bag of Smarties (the Canadian candy like M & M's) and Tim Horton's coffee. What a treat. The candy is sadly already gone.

Cancel the climate change debate. When I find a kangaroo at the Waterfront Park in Charleston, climate change is settled. I never know what I am going to find on a walk-about.

We are searching for the star of CHARLIE and Le Creuset’s new national video and column series, “The Desperate Chef.” The ideal candidate is charming, personable and has the innate ability to make a delicious meal out of seemingly nothing. Must be a good cook, great on camera, good with people and incredibly resourceful/inventive in the kitchen. Past culinary experience is a plus but not necessary.
