She Made Good Gravy

She Made Good Gravy, All Saint, Pawley's Island, SC
I had been to All Saint's Church near Pawley's Island before but learned later I had missed this tombstone and had to go back. My friend Rosie and I each started at opposite ends of the cemetery and although I spotted a few other interesting ones, she hit the jackpot. This lady was clearly well known for her gravy!

In the details

St. John's Lutheran Church, Charleston, S.C.
Look at the incredible detail work in these old tombstones. I walked yesterday from the Unitarian Church into St. John's Lutheran churchyard and that is where I found this selection. They are amazing works of art.

In other news, I had a nice healthy salmon caesar salad for dinner and then ate a piece of caramel pie at O'Charley's. I am close to being a sugar coma.

What do you want on your tombstone?

She was the sunshine of our home
She took us to church

She looked well to the ways of her household
Home is the sailor, home from the sea and the hunter home from the hill
Beautiful, daring, exuberant and compassionate. Heaven has many riches.

Your personal shopper - me!

Charleston, S.C.
Clicking around the blogosphere, I realize I have been slacking off on blogging duties. There is a general tradition of displaying wares for readers to buy. I don't take pictures of myself trying on new outfits in fitting rooms, displaying my feet in new shoes or raving about purses or nail polish colors.

Have no fear! I found a fresh exciting sale that no one else is promoting. Who knew that tombstones went on sale for Easter and Mother's Day? Tell them I sent you.

No promotional blog give-a ways to commenters. Sorry about that. Maybe next year after they get a rush of sales from my promotion.

The loneliest man no longer

John Doe, Charleston, S.C.

I imagined John Doe to be a solitary, lonely gentleman but perhaps not. Married to Jane Doe?! Who knew?

According to Wikipedia, in the UK, Australia and New Zealand they use the name Joe Bloggs as we use John Doe? These are other "place holder" names: Average Joe, John Smith, John Q Public, Joe Shmoe and Tommy Atkins.

Below, I guess we can imagine what the Deaconess' favorite expression was.  "Do Jesus." May she rest in peace. Do Jesus.
