It's Jasmine time!

Confederate Jasmine, Charleston, SC
Jasmine here, jasmine there, jasmine everywhere!

Whatcha doing this afternoon, kids? There is a tour of a part of Charleston not usually included in the grand mansion tour packages. If the rain holds off for us it should be fun. Click the link for details and maybe I will see you there.

Confederate Jasmination!

Confederate Jasmine, East Bay St., Charleston, SC
I had to do an errand in town this morning that led me to do my walk on the East Bay, Wentworth, Society St. route and the beautiful gardens made me want to come home and shape up my own little yard. The confederate jasmine is in full bloom.

I have nothing to compare to this glory but I did plant my caladiums this afternoon. I'll check to see if they have bloomed first thing in the morning. I am an impatient gardener.

Jasmine time!

Charleston, SC
The Confederate Jasmine is in bloom and the perfume is everywhere. I don't have any in my garden and I probably should be fined for that in Charleston.

Our scented garden

Confederate Jasmine, Charleston, SC
The scent of jasmine fills the Charleston air. It might be reasonable to fine those of us who don't have any blooming. It could be a simple check box on our tax return. Do you have jasmine in your yard? No? Bingo, pay an extra $5 to penalize you for not participating in the glory of the season.

The last of the jasmine

Montagu St., Charleston, SC

I tried to buy some jasmine this weekend but everyone was out. Nothing to it but to walk with snippers and start my jasmine trimming service. No charge!

Traffic has been awful here after a tractor trailer overturned on the Cooper River Bridge. The bridges were closed for hours and the other options naturally got tangled up as well. It wasn't a bad day to live and work West of the Ashley. Wondering if the bridge is open or not? Thanks to Sean McCambridge you can check this site: Is the Cooper River Bridge Closed?

Two ladies who met online meet up to eat their way though Charleston. They covered a lot of bases! Well done. Read their photo laden blog here but don't read it hungry.

I was doing pretty well cutting back on sugar until I remembered someone had long ago given me a bottle of Godiva Chocolate liquor. Hello there! Sip, sip.

No jasmine but I spotted this new garden design on Ashley Avenue that will be fun to check back on.

Short week, kids! We can do it.

Doors of Charleston - Jasmine

Jasmine covered door, Montague St., Charleston, SC
I was in the right place at the right time this morning. I was heading down to the College of Charleston for a reception for the REACH program this morning when I came across this door on Montague St. with the jasmine in full blossom.

There was a car parked right in front so I had to squirm around it to get the shot without the vehicle showing. I was almost tipsy with the scent of jasmine in the air. It is a beautiful time of year in Charleston.

It's Jasmine time!

Confederate Jasmine Gate, Charleston, S.C.
Let's make a law that every homeowner in Charleston is required to plant Confederate Jasmine and azaleas. It won't pass, but how much more fun to argue about than the current bills up for discussion. I am stepping up and offering to be the Floral Inspector.

Welcome to Charleston. You will need to plant some jasmine.
No, I don't.
Yes, you do.
No, I don't.
Get out.

Thanks to these upstanding citizens who followed my unwritten rules for living in the lowcountry. I must be allowed to stay as well. I had my old garage covered in jasmine in town and although it isn't blooming yet, I have some started in my new nest.

Olde Jasminetowne

Confederate Jasmine, Charleston, S.C.

Charleston is at risk of being overgrown with Confederate Jasmine. It's swarming over fences and winding around Palmetto trees. Soon we'll have to cut bits out just to get in our doors and let a little light in the windows. We might as well rename the city Jasminetowne.
