Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance - Yemassee Junction

Yemassee, SC
If I am ever driving through Yemassee, SC I must stop to check on the Yemassee Junction/Holy Temple Church mural. According to Google images I am not the only person who does that. We could each chip in a buck as we pass by towards mural maintenance.

These pictures were from a day trip from last weekend aiming to head to lunch at Fletcher's Finds, where you eat lunch inside an actual antique shop but arrived after it had closed for the afternoon. A drive takes longer when you stop to admire every quirky scene along the way. I didn't go to church and I missed lunch but a drive in the country at spring time in the lowcountry is always a successful day.

Outlet shopping

Yemassee, SC
I suspect you can find almost everything you don't need in this outdoor shopping spot in Yemassee, SC. I don't believe they even need to lock things up when they are closed. In fact, I was there on a Saturday and the sign clearly says "Closed Saturday" so they obviously don't worry too much about theft.

What a glorious day! We may have more chilly days on the way but this was a delicious break. I ate my dinner sitting outside and noticed it already has been staying light longer.

Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance - Old Sheldon Church Ruins

Old Sheldon Church ruins, Yemassee, SC
It is well worth the detour on the way back from Beaufort to see the Sheldon Church ruins - each and every time you go to Beaufort because they are that special. Built 1745-55, burned by the British army 1779, rebuilt 1826, burned by the Federal Army 1865. Now it is beautiful just as it is.

Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance - Taste the Blessings

Old Church Pies, Yemassee, S.C.
This weekend's Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance is the Old Church Pies chapel in Yemessee. Don't rush to your cars for a field trip because sadly, I don't think anyone has been tasting the blessings recently. Too bad! It sounds like a charming use of an old church building.

Where did this weekend go and why did it go so quickly?

Vintage dining

Fletcher's Finds, Yemassee, S.C.
Head down the road to Yemassee, S.C. for a real vintage dining experience. It is so vintage that the dining room is set right inside an antique store and you can sit anywhere you like.

At Fletcher's Finds you can probably buy the chair you are sitting in as well as the glass vase centerpiece holding the napkins. Have to wait a minute for your server? Do some shopping. The food was good - I had three pulled pork sliders and broccoli with cheese. I was so full I was tempted to crawl up in the antique four poster bed in the bottom photo and take a nap.

Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance - Yemessee

Yemassee Junction, Yemassee, S.C.
This weekend was so beautiful I sympathize with anyone who had to work or spend it indoors.I've hit enough different spots this weekend to keep the blog filled for a week or two myself!

This week's Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance is the Holy Temple Church in the railroad junction town of Yemassee, S.C. I'd taken this same picture a few years ago and as always was relieved to see an old favorite still intact. Sciway.net has more information on the town and it's railroad history and this site has some great old photos.

Yemassee had a brief fling with fame a few years ago when they were featured in a reality show series called "The Week the Women Went" when all the women left town leaving the men to fend for themselves for a week.
