I am delighted to get recognition for a student who volunteers at the hospital. All non-profits are invited to nominated so these students represented different area agencies. Congrats ladies!

West Ashley Optimist Club Honorees

Honored for Community Service, 2014
It's been a busy day hopping from meeting to meeting but I ended it on a high note at the West Ashley Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Awards Banquet. The Optimist Club bills itself as the Friend of Youth and each year they let organizations nominate a student for recognition.

I am pleased to present the honorees for 2014. From healthcare, parks and recreation to the aquarium this is an outstanding group of young people who have already left their mark in their community. Congratulations!

Optimist Club Honors Youth

Youth Appreciation Banquet, Charleston, S.C.
The West Ashley Optimist Club held their annual Youth Appreciation Banquet last night. I am always pleased to have the chance to nominate one of my student volunteers for recognition.

My honoree is the gal on the far right. Not only did she volunteer all summer but after taking a CPR class went home and recognized that her own father was having a stroke and kicked into action to get him prompt treatment. I was proud as punch. We have some amazing young people in the lowcountry. Congratulations!

Optimist Club Honors Youth

The West Ashley Optimist Club held its Youth Appreciation Awards program this evening at Easterby's Restaurant on Highway 61 and non-profits in the area were invited to nominate a teenager for their community service. What an outstanding group of students.

My gal is second from the right - Ashley Freeman who is a senior at St. John's High School and has every intention of being an Ob/Gyn physician. She has volunteered in the Nursery at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital for two summers.

The other students are Alexis Hayes - Roper Hospital, Cameron Merriken - MUSC, Kyle Davis - St. Andrew's Parks & Recreation, Ashley Freeman and Hannah Smith - Trident Hospital. Congratulations!

After I introduced my nominee they surprised ME with an award! I was completely blown away. Thank you folks!
