Art in the park - West Ashley Greenway

West Ashley Greenway, Charleston, SC
I have been eagerly awaiting planned improvements to the West Ashley Greenway and Bikeway. I'd heard that a new site specific scuplture had been installed and made a point to walk down to see it. It is odd looking - tanks joined together but the opening invites you climb in and look up to see the colorful view. More to come I hope!

Greenway Decor

West Ashley Greenway, Charleston, SC
Charleston Moves rallied volunteers to paint colorful designs on intersections of the West Ashley Greenway this weekend. Besides the happy color it is hoped that it will hope slow down motorists. Thank you to everyone involved. I enjoyed a perfect Greenway walk visiting each site.

Walk with me - West Ashley Greenway

West Ashley Greenway, Charleston, SC
I often walk the east end of the West Ashley Greenway popping out at the South Windermere shopping plaza but this was the first time to drive to the south trail end off Main Rd. and walk in from the direction. The tide was out and I passed folks carrying fishing rods and clearly set up for a morning of crabbing. It was never crowded but I saw dogs, bikes and babies on this beautiful stretch of trail.

I was in search of a tree that people have been throwing their sneakers on to. I heard it was on the part of the path but although I walked for a couple of miles I never spotted it. Phewy. I need to find the other access spots further in and try again. Meanwhile I got my 10,000 steps in and saw beautiful scenery. Well worth a visit.

Edit to add the picture below. I walked all that distance to find the tree with all the shoes tossed over branches, gave up and walked out. A kind reader on Facebook suggested that I look closely on the photo above. I was standing right under the tree in question. Duh me. I assume the original image that sparked my interest had been taken in the winter without all the foliage on the tree.

Don't Cuss, Call Us

Speedy Cab, Charleston, S.C.
I walked the West Ashley Greenway through to South Windermere on Monday morning and happened upon this wacky vintage taxi cab. Love the "Don't Cuss, Call Us" line! I tried to flag it down for a ride back home but couldn't get the driver's attention. So I cussed.

Greenway Walking

Scenes from West Ashley Greenway, Charleston, S.C.
It takes exactly half an hour to walk from my house to South Windermere along the West Ashley Greenway path. It is a lovely peaceful walk and I'd probably burn off a few calories if I hadn't paused for a yummy brunch at the Three Little Birds cafe.

Yeah, an extra hour! I've been bummed thinking I was losing an hour and then it struck me that it was the other way around. I am spending a bit of my extra time watching Saturday Night Live which is always at it's best during a campaign season.

Walk west young woman, walk west

Avondale, Charleston, S.C.
This is my walking neighborhood now. I can't tell you how many people have seen me walking, assumed my car had broken down and stopped to offer me a ride. Heheh. Folks at work stop me bewildered saying, "Was that you I saw walking on Highway 17?" Yep!

I do my best to wind my way between neighborhoods but sooner or later I have to dash across a highway even to get over to the greenway. I can walk to South Windermere shops if I have time and I can hike to a good number of grocery stores and restaurants. It ain't the peninsula but I do pretty good.

Burrell & Flynn is the new little coffee shop that tempts me with ice coffee after a long hot walk. I have avoided their pastry so far but they do make yummy pimento cheese.

The Glass Onion at the far  end of this last shot is delicious of course but there is also some action at the old #1 Car Wash. It was suggested that it might be renovated for a restaurant as well. If I just stay here long enough perhaps all the good stuff will come to me.

Hiking the Greenway

West Ashley Greenway, Charleston, S.C.
I'm not the only one who hikes the West Ashley Greenway. I met this little fella on his way.

Looks nice and dry in this picture but I just got my get up and go to go out for my walk this evening and it has started to pour. Drat.
