A little off the top

Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.
These trees had a rough hair cut. I am sure it will all pay off in the spring but it leaves them looking a little odd all winter.

Shirley Temple died. Wasn't she the most adorable little kid? I hope she had a good and happy life.

It is almost 9 p.m. in February and I'm trying to figure out who is setting off fireworks? Huh? My birthday was yesterday.

Waterfront Park Walking

Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.
I spent part of my day at the Mount Pleasant Hospital in meetings and ended up home early enough to walk in the pretty light. I did a good loop, found myself down at the Waterfront Park and walked along the Battery.

A lot of people were out although I seemed to catch the scene looking abandoned. Tents are being put up for Southeastern Wildlife Festival festivities. I almost forgot that was this weekend. The animal lovers and animal hunters are coming to town!

Back to Reality

Check out the Post & Courier's album from the Polar Bear Plunge Sullivan's Island by photographer Grace Beahm. So funny!  It was a warm day so people clearly enjoyed the event and went all out in costumes.

Is it seriously supposed to get cold tonight?! We've been so happy pretending winter doesn't happen in South Carolina. My hibiscus are still blooming.

My walk took me to the Waterfront Park this morning and this seagull enjoyed posing for me.

G'night kids. Back to reality in the morning. It's been sweet.

I am Sailing, I am Sailing....

Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.

Yes. I did buy a dollhouse model ship on eBay just so I could take pictures in puddles.

:)))

And, I find it all works much better if I hum Rod Stewart's "I am sailing" when I am on my belly in the mud trying to keep my little ship from tipping over in the puddle.

Back to work already?

Charleston Harbor Pilot building, Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.

Uhoh. I slipped right out of the habit of working after being off on jury duty last week. I didn't have to report to the courthouse until 9:30 in the morning and was dismissed for an hour and a half for lunch. I'm not sure I'm ready for reality to hit me in the morning and play catch up after being out for a week. Ouch. I'm scared.

Congrats to the Japanese Women's Soccer team for winning the World Cup! Wow.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. G'night kids. Turn the lights out.

Fields of flowers & pineapple blossoms

Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.

Isn't this fun?! It is right down at the water front park at the Pineapple fountain. The flowers were bobbing in the breeze and kids were running around splashing in the water. It was perfect.

Did anyone else have a little trouble working today after the long weekend? I got a lot done but had to force myself. It will be a short week.

My house is painted. It looks crisp and fresh. My brother is the most efficient painter. Sadly he leaves tomorrow morning. Sniff. We are heading out to a last dinner before he heads to the airport in the morning.

Charleston Harbor

Charleston Harbor, Charleston, S.C.

I am so tickled that I can be on the west coast one day and the east the next that I had to walk to the water this morning. It is a bright and shiny day.

I spotted this gentleman picking things out of the pineapple fountain and for a moment wondered if he was taking coins. In fact he was going for his walk and picking up trash along the way. He showed me his little bag with soggy candy wrappers and cigarette butts. He moved quickly and roved all over the water front park spotting litter and picking it up. He said he lived five miles away but came into town for church and tried to "be a good example for you young people". Wow.

At this very moment

Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.

I try not to promote graffiti that borders on vandalism but I do snag some shots for my own files and this is an oldie but goodie.

I like people who appreciate the very moment when things are good instead of always talking about the "good old days" after the fact. These kids marked the moment. 6:10 am. Four friends. The best of times and they knew it.

The inscription was marked on one of the pillars at the waterfront park and has been long cleaned off but I know it was there and smile every time I stand there sniffing the ocean air.

Cruise ship passengers wander Charleston

Celebrity Mercury, Waterfront Park, Charleston, S.C.

Ugghh. Not sure I'd be wanting to be first back on the ship after so many people got sick on its recent voyage. Charleston was swarming with passengers who had an unexpected day to wander the city while the ship was being cleaned. I knew at least three couples who were on the ship although I haven't heard if they were among the sick.

Celebrity Mercury Sailing Postponed:
After a widespread outbreak of stomach illness aboard Celebrity Cruises Mercury sailing from Charleston, South Carolina, the cruise liner will depart a day late as unscheduled deep-cleaning is performed.

The ship arrived in Charleston after an 11-night sailing on which an estimated 419 of the 1,830 passengers on board were afflicted with a suspected Norovirus. Delayed until 5PM Saturday, the ship and cruise terminal are being cleaned in close coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
