Valentines Day

Valentine's Day, Charleston, SC
I have connections! Every year I send an email to Randall Dukes and he summons a beauty queen to serve as an honorary volunteer on Valentine's Day. We've met one beautiful young lady after another.

Our guest this year was Sara Burd, Miss South Carolina Global US and she was a delight. I was exhausted after walking all over the hospital and she did it with heels on! She brought a lot of smiles and posed for so many pictures. Thanks Sara!

Valentine's day rounds

Valentine's Day , Charleston, SC
It's our valentine tradition. Each year I contact Randall Dukes and without fail he summons up a beauty queen to serve as an honorary volunteer on Valentine's Day and pass out treats at the hospital. Tiara and sashes have an amazing effect on a beautiful gal. Children assume she is a princess and both men and women agree to pose for a picture.

This year's beauty queen is Reagan Mobley - Miss Charleston Southern University. She was incredibly gracious and walked for a couple of miles visiting nursing stations, offices and waiting rooms. Thanks Reagan!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Miss South Carolina, Charleston, SC
Caroline Scruggs, Miss South Carolina Supranational came to serve as an honorary volunteer at the hospital for valentine's day yesterday. The CEO was in a meeting so I had her take over his desk. Tada!

After taking over the hospital management I walked her for miles all over the hospital passing out romantic fortune cookies and posing for pictures with the cupcake decorating contest winners. She was a great sport and brought a lot of smiles.

In other news - how do you like my little puppy-dog cupcakes?! I made those.

Valentine's Day festivities

Cupcake contest winners, Charleston, S.C.
We have a bit of red tinted happy chaos at the hospital on Valentine's Day. For years we have hosted a Cupcake Decorating contest. Until that morning I have no idea if any baked goods will show up but each year they do! The cupcakes are then sold to raise money for the American Heart Association in recognition of Heart Month.

My beauty queen dealer Randall Dukes summons up a Beauty Queen to serve as an Honorary Volunteer for the day and this year Sarah Hicks - Miss South Carolina International USA came and brought lots of smiles handing out romantic fortune cookies and treats around the hospital. Thanks Sarah!

As the pavement turns....Valentine's edition

Scraper & Fish, Charleston, S.C.
Short stories in the pavement. As Valentine's Day draws closer I can't help wondering.....

Where are they now? Does Scraper still love Fish? Did Dundee do Jock? Does Andrew bring Heidi back to their piece of pavement on anniversaries? Did Barko and Linko settle down and have little Binkos? Are Chan! & Mike! happy forever? Did "Love No One"? find the love of his life?

Luckily I can turn the corner for another episode of "As the Pavement Turns".

Valentine's Day

Keyla Childs, Miss Charleston 2014, Charleston, S.C.
I summon up a treat for all the gentlemen at work by inviting a beauty queen to serve as an honorary hospital volunteer on Valentine's Day and it worked! Miss Charleston 2014, Keyla Childs walked all over the hospital in those snazzy boots passing out candy treats and posing for photos with our staff and patients. She was delightful and brought a lot of smiles!

Thanks to every one who baked cupcakes for our sale. I'll turn some money over to the American Heart Association on Monday for Heart month. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Valentine's Day Fun

Cupcake Decorating Contest, Charleston, S.C.

I was off for the most part of this week but worked today since Valentine's Day is one of the high holy days for the Volunteer Department in the friendly little hospital across the river. I watched with relief as the happily, decorated cupcakes started arriving for our annual cupcake decorating contest fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Volunteers spent the day directing florists to the right floors to deliver flowers to lucky employees and patients. Mrs. South Carolina even got a personalized pageant balloon doll from our clown volunteer Dr. Silly Bone.

Mrs. South Carolina - Jennifer Loveday Donovan served as Honorary Volunteer for the day handing out Valentine fortune cookies and posing for photos and fellow blogger Christina Orso from Hungry Meets Healthy arrived to be official cupcake contest judge. Thanks ladies! You brought a lot of smiles today!
