Reading of the Declaration of Independence, Charleston, SC 

I go to this even each year if I am in town. It's always hot and humid and very meaningful to hear the Declaration of Independence read aloud in the same spot it was so many years ago.

Happy July 4th!

I went on a patriotic flag search walk last time I was in town and the Belvedere Bed & Breakfast on Rutledge never lets me down. 

Happy Independence Day my fellow Americans! Thanks for welcoming this poor immigrant many years ago. You've given me a home, family, rewarding work and countless friendships.

PS: Making me go to Pittsburgh for a welcoming syphilis test was a little weird but happily I passed.

Reading of the Declaration of Independence - July 4th

Heads up, kids! There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence on the front steps of the Exchange on July 4th at 9:30 a.m. As there was and as there should be.

Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, East Bay St., Charleston, SC   

It is tradition to read the Declaration of Independence from the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon on July 4th and a good crowd was gathered in the heat this morning. A wreath was then carried to St. Philip's churchyard and placed on the tomb of Governor John Rutledge who first read the document to the citizens of South Carolina many years ago. The annual tradition of publicly reading the Declaration of Independence began in 2013 through the organizing efforts and planning from the Washington Light Infantry.

As I walked down I met an elderly British gentleman who was taking a break in the shade. He was on his own on his first trip to the states. I told him if he could make it as far as East Bay St. he would get to see the event. He said that was exactly where he was heading.
