Some of our Dragon Boat team members were fundraising and asked if I knew any businesses that would sponsor their team. They were raising money by selling team shirts and promised to list their sponsors on the back of the shirt. Tada! I hadn't made any donation to cancer prevention yet this year so now Charleston Daily Photo blog is an official team sponsor! 

Charleston Dragon Boat Festival

 From my quick walk through this morning the 8th annual Dragon Boat Festival appears to have been a grand success. I tried to catch the teams I knew for group photos and enjoyed the colorful and high energy crowd as much as the races themselves. The festival raises $150,000 for cancer survivor programs. Well done paddlers!

Ha! This picture cracks me up. The fellow in the green shirt looks like he is asking the bear what he thinks he is doing. He is lucky it was a relatively cool day.

I walked through the happy chaos of Dragon Boat Charleston this morning and tried to get shots of some of my friends and co-workers teams. These gentlemen were a happy addition as they answered the age old question about what men do wear under their kilts!  Lots of fun for a good cause.

It wasn't the very best day for Dragon Boat racing on the Ashley river but that didn't seem to hamper the festivities at Brittlebank Park today. So many of our hospital units had teams participating I went by this morning to grab a few photos. The gang above is one of the best ICU staffs you will hope to never need, but if you do, they will take good care of you. Our Operating Room staff paddled in honor of Della, below. Della was one of their co-workers who passed away unexpectedly last year. Good fun for a good cause.

Dragon Boat Races are Coming to Town!

This event is a phenomena, I tell ya - kids, tents, costumes, picnics, good looking men in Viking helmets, cancer survivors, athletes, so many friends! The whole thing is amazing. Congratulations to the organizers, paddlers and winners. More here.
