Cooper River Bridge Run - Wheelchair Racers

King St., Charleston, SC
I am not a sports photographer but have such respect for these athletes that I leap out of bed and head to town early to find my spot for pictures. They move so quickly and keep their heads down. I find the intersection where they turn off King St. so I have a chance to get them looking up to turn the corner. They are quite impressive athletes. Congratulations ladies and gentlemen!

In other news, I haven't gone missing in action and will be back to regular postings shortly. I moved! Packed up everything including the bear and mermaid and moved last Friday. I am gradually getting boxes unpacked and settling into my new little nest which isn't far at all from my old house. My computer is perched on top of an old end table until I buy a new desk but things are coming along nicely.

Cooper River Bridge Run 2014

Cooper River Bridge Run, King St., Charleston, S.C.
I camped out at the run turn at King and Wentworth St. yesterday morning and tried my hand at sports photography. It gave me a whole new respect for that field of photography. Whew. These folks move fast. I caught the beginning of the run and then slipped back out of town before the traffic chaos. I hope everyone had a grand time!

More photos here.

Cooper River Bridge Run 2014 - Wheelchair Racers

Cooper River Bridge Run - 2014, Wheelchair Races, Charleston, S.C.

These folks amaze me. They push themselves across a bridge that is a challenge to anyone, by their arms. I get to town early to catch them in action. They are a challenge to photograph, they are moving so fast and for the most part are looking down.I wanted to lay on the pavement to aim up but I probably would have been run over.

More photos to follow but this was what I went for. Congratulations folks! I hope everyone had a good day.

Charleston Battery soccer players run the Cooper River Bridge Run

Charleston Battery runners, Charleston, S.C.
There were a lot of fun costumes in the Cooper River Bridge Run this morning but these gentlemen from the Charleston Battery soccer team were actually in uniform. Run gentlemen!

Congratulations Cooper River Bridge Runners/Walkers!

Amazing. They look like they are flying. The wheelchair racers were so fast most of them had already passed by when I arrived.  After the initial serious competitors, I love the sense of humor and outfits people wear to enjoy the day. Town is happy chaos and I am sure every restaurant will be full. I am sorry I didn't offer to make brunch for participants I knew. Maybe I will do that next year.

Cooper River Bridge Run - Competitive Wheelchair Race, part 2

Cooper River Bridge, 2012 - Wheelchair Racer, King St. Charleston, S.C.
I don't know anything about competitive wheelchair racing but I may be a new fan. How cool is this? I am in awe of these athletes. A didn't have time for many pictures this morning but a few more from this category uploaded here. Congratulations!

Now that I have exhausted myself uploading a few pictures I may need an afternoon nap. ;) Isn't that the proper thing to do after a race?

I aimed to catch the first runners going by in the Cooper River Brridge Run this morning since I will be heading out shortly to get to a friends funeral. The run was delayed so what I did get to see were the competitive wheelchair racers. Wow! I can't even imagine the arm muscles they need to do this. Quite impressive. A few more photos in this category added here.

Good luck to everyone else out there wheeling, running and walking today!
