How much is that doggie on the boat?

1600 Meeting St., Charleston, S.C.
Eye catching mural here. I appreciate people making such an effort to keep me entertained. I was snooping around to see the changes happening at 1600 Meeting St. and a lot has been done. Times they are a' changing! I am generally locked up in my office during weekday hours so not sure if they have been serving food from the promised Land Yacht yet or not. Here is their website.

Time to settle in and watch the episode of Fargo I recorded the other night. Not too bad.

Awakening - 1600 Meeting St.

Patch Whisky, 1600 Meeting St., Charleston
Here are a couple shots of the Awakening art installations at 1600 Meeting St. today sponsored by Enough Pie.  One little snag - there was no airconditioning in the building and the heat and humidity had my camera lens so fogged up I had a hard time using my camera during the time I was there. Maybe it will impart a mysterious mood to my pictures. Heheh.

I was pleased to meet photographer Jared Bramlett who was showing photographs of many back-road scenes that looked familiar to me. Check out his site at: jaredbramlett.com

Green Tea at 1600 Meeting St.

Green tea - it's good for you!
More later but wanted to stop by to remind local folks of the one day art installations at 1600 Meeting St. It is another dreary, humid weekend but I knew it was a good sign when they had a gentleman out directing traffic. Check it out - art, murals, photography for one day only until the building is renovated and settled with creative tenants. It was a good chance to explore the space. The event is open until 6 p.m.
Enough Pie has announced the date for Awakening: a one- day art and performance event designed to breathe new life into 1600 Meeting and usher in an era of arts-driven community collaboration for the upper peninsula. The event is free and open to the public.
The rooms and hallways of 1600 Meeting, an 86-year-old vacant building on upper Meeting Street, will be open for creative reinterpretation during the 3-day window between cleanup and renovation. Awakening is a temporary and site-specific event, never to take place in 1600 Meeting again.
Awakening includes a wide range of art forms and mediums from over 20 participants, such as dance, sculpture, photography, interactive installations, textile art and more. A current list of participants will be maintained on the Enough Pie blog.
It is so humid I had trouble taking pictures through my fogged up lens.

1600 Meeting St.

1600 Meeting St., Charleston, S.C.
It is an eye catching building, no doubt, sitting abandoned for years in a mostly industrial section of upper Meeting St. I was aware of it because I am always sneaking up that way to wander around Magnolia Cemetery.

At a recent Pecha Kucha evening, it was presented as the anchor of a future "creative corridor". More information here: 1600 Meeting and on their facebook page. I still can't tell if anything is really happening there or if it is all simply a cool concept. The sign suggests that the last incarnation of the building was some kind of Antique store.

I walked up the block to throw the giant wooden cross in just to impress you. :))

Bed time, kids. I have two Tres Leches Boston Cream cakes cooling and the house smells delicious. Yum.
