St. John's Lutheran Church, Charleston, S.C. |
Look at the incredible detail work in these old tombstones. I walked yesterday from the Unitarian Church into St. John's Lutheran churchyard and that is where I found this selection. They are amazing works of art.
In other news, I had a nice healthy salmon caesar salad for dinner and then ate a piece of caramel pie at O'Charley's. I am close to being a sugar coma.

Beautiful details!
There's such a thing as caramel pie?
It is wicked, wicked, wicked. Thick rich caramel. It should be shared by two or three people.
Incredible craftsmanship - both the tombstones and, from the sounds of it, the caramel pie.
Joan - I am a fellow boneyard photographer from way back, and these are some jewels! The first photo reminds me of a quote from Hamlet - when Queen Gertrude tells Laertes that Ophelia has drowned... it starts:
"There is a willow grows aslant a brook,
That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream..."
Who knew they had such a treat at O'Charley's? When I was a kid we used to boil a can of sweetened condensed milk under water for three hours. When you opened the can it had turned to dark, thick caramel. That is what this pie is like.
These are great ones, aren't they? You probably walked through this cemetery here.
