St. John's Lutheran Church, Charleston, S.C. |
Look at the incredible detail work in these old tombstones. I walked yesterday from the Unitarian Church into St. John's Lutheran churchyard and that is where I found this selection. They are amazing works of art.
In other news, I had a nice healthy salmon caesar salad for dinner and then ate a piece of caramel pie at O'Charley's. I am close to being a sugar coma.
Beautiful details!
ReplyDeleteThere's such a thing as caramel pie?
It is wicked, wicked, wicked. Thick rich caramel. It should be shared by two or three people.
DeleteIncredible craftsmanship - both the tombstones and, from the sounds of it, the caramel pie.
ReplyDeleteWho knew they had such a treat at O'Charley's? When I was a kid we used to boil a can of sweetened condensed milk under water for three hours. When you opened the can it had turned to dark, thick caramel. That is what this pie is like.
DeleteJoan - I am a fellow boneyard photographer from way back, and these are some jewels! The first photo reminds me of a quote from Hamlet - when Queen Gertrude tells Laertes that Ophelia has drowned... it starts:
ReplyDelete"There is a willow grows aslant a brook,
That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream..."
These are great ones, aren't they? You probably walked through this cemetery here.
