No Papparazi Please.......

Tradd & Meeting St., Charleston, S.C.

No Papparazi please....we don't have clothes on!

The sign in the window explains that it is an installation by John Dunnan for the Gibbes Museum of Art. The Museum is bringing world renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude to Charleston in April 2010.

If this is a sample it looks like April will be interesting. These folks put some effort into their creativity! More here.

  1. The mannequins are climbing columns of the Branford-Horry House at the Northwest corner of Tradd and Meeting Streets. It's fair to say that the original architect had not anticipated guests entering in quite this fashion.

These are great photos especially the interesting perspective of the last panel. We enjoy the way that the twin rotundas of the venerable First (Scots) Presbyterian Church are paralleled by the twin columns of climbers. Perhaps they are heaven bound. It looks like an inspiration for a sermon.

  3. Windvile - Thanks for the info on the property. I met a couple going inside who seemed to be owners.

    Les - I don't know. I'll see if I can find out.

  8. Interesting. But what's the point? Or, maybe the point is there is no point. Why get tied up in "niceties"? :-)

There are times when the word "art" strikes me as an broad coverup for "silliness".

  12. Caroline - it's worth a look.

Marcheline - I took a picture of the blue mannequins tied up outside his gallery a few months ago. I suspect they had them and thought this would get attention. They are right! They had to use cherry pickers to get the figures up there.

    Doug - :)
