Mark your calendars for next year! The Hell Hole Swamp festival has been held on the first weekend in May for forty-seven years. If you get your application in on time you might earn a preserved gator head as a trophy in the Gator Trot or win the Miss Hell Hole Swamp beauty pageant crown.

What fun! We got there as the Gator Trot was finishing and heard the reading of the annual poem before trophies were handed out. The ceremony ended just as the parade began. The parade was festive and featured the usual politicians, business, fire engines, beauty queens, hill billies and anyone who had a cool car or motorcycle to show off. There was more candy tossed than I have ever seen at a parade.
