Gandhi visits North Charleston

Mahatma Gandhi, North Charleston, S.C.
I've been on the look out for a mural of Mahatma Gandhi that I heard was in North Charleston but no one seemed to know where it was. I finally asked a server at Evo's Pizza and was informed that it was on the wall inside a bar - The Sparrow.

It was early in the afternoon and with the establishment relatively empty the manager let me wander and admire. The artist is Douglas Panzone.

  1. Glad you found more examples of Doug's artistry at the delightful dive The Sparrow. I lined up a picture so Bill Murray (Caddyshack)appeared next to Gandhi. What a duo.

    1. How did I miss your entry? I will backtrack and find it. I imagined it outside but no one seemed to know so I tried asking about inside murals.

  2. Fab! Sounds like the beginning of an old joke: "So I walk into this bar, and there's Ghandi..."

    1. It does. I actually hesitated to show him with alcohol since he didn't drink at all and vowed to his mother not to.

  6. Johnny Cash I think. There were murals all over the walls. I just caught a snippet in this scene. There is a good one of Edgar Allan Poe as well.
