James James
Morrison Morrison
Weatherby George Dupree
Took great
Care of his Mother,
Though he was only three.
James James Said to his Mother,
"Mother," he said, said he;
"You must never go down
to the end of the town,
if you don't go down with me."
James James
Morrison's Mother
Put on a golden gown.
James James Morrison's Mother
Drove to the end of the town.
James James Morrison's Mother
Said to herself, said she:
"I can get right down
to the end of the town
and be back in time for tea."

I remember marching around reciting it and stomping my feet to the rhythm as a kid and it comes to mind whenever I come to a spot that seems to be the edge of town. This morning it was the end point of my walk down the West Ashley Bikeway. I was the only person on the path but I only had to make Thanksgiving feast for two so my baking didn't take much time.
I had a nice lunch with my son and have much to be thankful for including YOU, the kind folks who take the time to drop by here, pause a moment and often leave a comment and make my day. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
ReplyDeleteLove that poem. Happy Thanksgiving, Joan.
ReplyDeleteJoan dahling, Happy Thanksgiving to YOU! I just rolled in the door from work a little while ago, and I'm getting ready to go and have myself a glass of sherry and watch some "Boardwalk Empire". Bear and I are doing our turkey day on Saturday (we even recorded the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to watch in the morning). Hope you and your son had a lovely dinner together. At work tonight it was nice to notice that almost all the pilots wished me a Happy Thanksgiving - whether they were from this country or not! The foreign pilots seemed more excited about saying it - it was very heartwarming and sort of cute. Nothing beats the word "Thanksgiving" said in a heavy French accent... "Tanksgeeveeng" 8-)
ReplyDeleteI never got into Boardwalk Empire. Now I don't have HBO so it doesn't matter. I had me a grilled cheese for my post Thanksgiving dinner. I sent all the turkey scraps home with my son. I still have lots of dressing and taters though.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteSame to you Julia. I am glad you are blogging again.
DeleteI always love your photography, and the poem makes it even better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Allen!
