In other news, here is a list labeled "outdated tech items we still used today." I do still use a few of them. I always wear a watch although in my recent summer camp, not a single one of the teenagers had one on. They all used their cell phones. I still love my morning newspaper ritual even if I've already read the news online. That might be almost it for me. I still had a VCR in the attic when I moved but got rid of it. How about y'all?
Outdated Tech items we still used today:
- VCR
- Watches
- Non-Internet pornography
- Regular mail
- Movie rentals
- Nintendo
- Landline phone
- Newspapers
- Classified ads
- Discman
- Phone books
- Fax machines
- Maps
- Flip phones
- Standalone GPS units
- Non-flat TVs and monitors
- Film cameras
- Payphones/phone booths
- AOL email
- 1-900 numbers
7.Landline phone
ReplyDeleteFor reasons I cannot figure out the people that built the house my family and live mounted the landline phone on the kitchen wall in the most odd place making it an eyesore. Right from the start I looked into moving it but that would have involved more work than it was worth.
We keep it strictly because it is on a seperate circuit and still working even after the rest of the house loses power. A fact that my in-laws learned the hard way in their home last summer.
I wish I had one of those phones in my kitchen. It used to make sense because the Missus could cook and talk while reaching as far as the cord would let her. I kept a corded phone for the same reason after Hugo. I meant to keep it when I moved but they plugged my land line into the back of the knology modem. They did promise it had a battery.
Deletei still use about half of these. Some of the out-dated technology is still more advanced than what I'm currently using.
ReplyDeleteHeheh. I might as well use a flip phone for all I do with it. I have a work blackberry but I'm not a phone chatty person.
DeleteLike you, I love my newspaper in the morning... like you said, it's a ritual... coffee and the newspaper makes me smile... I still send cards and letters in the mail, I hope that never changes, its so much more personal I think... and I have to wear a watch... even though as I get older I can barely see it, I use it more for the date than the time. Since I'm home a lot I don't carry my cell phone everywhere I go... We do have one tv/dvd player that is of the "thick" variety, ha ha... use it in the room with the treadmill :) its only 13" so it's not super obnoxious looking.... ha... Oh, just caught another, we do rent movies using Redbox... can't beat $1.20, just rented THE KING'S SPEECH, great movie! Where did you find this list, ha ha, it's interesting!
ReplyDeleteAmen...don't know when I will stop getting the paper. When it gets too expensive I suppose.
DeleteLove the King's Speech!
Absolutely beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteI still wear a watch (I have several), and use a FAX and maps. The rest of the list is ancient history as far as I'm concerned.

I stopped using fax machines when I was able to scan and send files as a pdf email attachment. Lovely feature. For years I had a broken fax machine that could send but not receive. On the other hand I remember what a great advancement they were when they came out. Amazing!
DeleteThat house used to belong to the Drayton family. It's always been one of my favorites. When I was working at Drayton Hall, I got to restore an old photo of Charlotta Drayton standing on the front steps (early 20th century). Every time I see that house I think of that photo.
ReplyDeleteI haven't worn a watch in years. I use regular mail for lots of things. I love my newspaper in the morning with coffee. I use a fax machine every day at work -- it's necessary. We don't have a landline anymore -- got tired of wrong numbers and telemarketers and we never used it. I've been known to break out the phone book now and then. We got a map just a few weeks ago on our way to a certain party in the country. My husband has a flip-phone (he calls it his old-man phone). We have never owned a stand-alone gps so that technology has apparently passed us by, although we recently have talked about buying one because the one in my smart-phone has been misbehaving lately. I use an AOL email address for facebook.
LeeAnne, it is one of my favorites. It looks a bit Asian to me.
DeleteI still wear a cheap timex with a second hand - old nursing habit.
Regarding #3: Joan! You little tart! 8-)
ReplyDeleteRegarding all the electronic items... sure, we still use them... until they break... and we go to the store and find out they don't even MAKE them any more! Then we feel old, and cry, and buy whatever newfangled thing took its place.

Nothin' like a good dirty book :)).
DeleteSix years ago, before our last move, I got rid of several point-and-shoot film cameras. But I couldn't part with my film SLR. Just couldn't do it.
ReplyDeleteNot that I have used it or anything...
