Lee's Barber Shop, Ashley Ave., Charleston, S.C. |
Awwww....it is so tiny and cute! Don't come early for your appointment. You might not fit in the door.
Just noticed the For Rent sign. I think I'll go to Barber School and set up shop. I'll have to change the name.
Mr. Green, owner of Lee's Barber Shop, retired in December at the age of 80. Called Mr. Lee by many, he began cutting hair 70 years ago! I miss seeing him standing in his doorway in the afternoons and evenings as I drive home down Ashley Avenue. Thanks for posting this, Joan!
ReplyDeleteMaria - Nice to know the real story. It is adorable. It looks like they just built in the driveway.
DeleteThis is awesome reading up on my great uncle richard. He just recently passed and we buried him today in summerville. I love reading about how awesomr of a guy he was in charleston cutting peoples hair ! Long live my uncle richard ! #TeamGreen 💚💚
DeleteSounds like this little hole-in-the-wall place made him a decent living for 7 decades. Good for him. :)

Not a bad life I bet.
DeleteThanks to Maria for the background information. What a great story; I hope that Mr. Green is well and enjoying his well-deserved retirement.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Nice to know the background. I still think I might make a good barber. :)
DeleteI have determined that when the day comes that I decide to stop coloring my hair and embrace the grey, I will go to a proper barber shop and have myself a crew cut.
ReplyDeleteHa! And I will be there to film it!
DeleteYou have been trimming your own hair for years, I don't think you would need to go to barber school......you are good to go! Sally
ReplyDeleteSad but true :)
DeleteIt's nice to know there's a city where zoning officials have a sense of humor!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it was grandfathered in. After I graduate from Barber school and take it over they will change the zoning law.
