The year of the Crepe Myrtle

Meeting St., Charleston, S.C.

This is the year for the most glorious Crepe Myrtles. Last year we had an incredible show of Magnolia trees in bloom, but this year the Crepe Myrtle trees are heavy with blossoms. After the rain the sidewalks are splashed with a carpet of colored flower petals. Everywhere. Charleston is a garden.

  1. I don't usually use the word, pretty, but it sure fits here! Great photo - well balanced and super colors. Our crepe myrtles are finally blossoming, also, and they are truly beautiful!

Jacob - Thanks. Not bad for a little canon powershot pocket camera, eh! I've been wearing out my shoulder carrying my big camera so trying to make myself go light some days.

  4. Am I wrong? I was doing the Meeting Church St. walk back from the Battery so thought it was Meeting.

This is a very nice photo. It is interesting how some years are "good ones" for certain plants. It seems this has also been a good one for hydrangaes -- they are past their peak now, so it is nice to have the crype myrtles step up.

  7. Sandy, Yes, the hydrangeas have been beautiful this year. It must all have to do with exactly when and how much rain etc.

    bfarr - thank you!

  8. You are right! I didn't see your title (more coffee needed at that moment, my excuse ;-).
